Great video. Got about 500 miles on mine so far and this gear box is a whole learning to get the best from it. Like you, engine dynamic and in D auto, the gears change nearly like normal, the secret is how you use the throttle and brakes which affect the gear changing. The beauty of ASA is that if you feel in D mode that the gear is not quite right, change it with your foot to suit what you want. The expectation on ASA to be perfect is too high. D mode is fantastic for around town, cruising, and hill starts. Manual mode is as smooth as you can get on a boxer twin and is as close to a full quickshifter as you can get. I’ve heard people reviewing saying that you can’t feel the gear change through your foot cos it’s so light. After 500 miles my wee brain has adjusted and now I get the same experience as I did on my GSA1250 and XR through my foot. I’ve ridden bikes all my life and for touring and general riding ASA is game changer. Great video Lofty 👍

Hi Lofty, yes over the last few years I have owned 1200, and 1250 GSA's, a week before Christmas I picked up my 1300 GSA TE ASA, one the reasons for having the auto box is a touch of arthritis in my left wrist, and though it's not as good as DCT it's not bad I love it in fact, and just how many people have manual gearbox cars these days. Okay if you are a sports bike fan it makes sense to have that control I suppose, but I think on the GSA it compliments the bike and makes the package pretty dam good. Thank you I enjoyed your review.

@@RollWithSoul317 I was one of the first in the UK to ride BMW ASA. Can you explain how it's not fully automatic? On You Tube, forums and other social media I've seen comments about DCT as if it's superior to ASA. The ASA gear change in Drive/Auto mode is completed in milliseconds and exactly how quick is dependent on the mode second. My understanding from BMW HO tech people is that all the actuator changes between 1st to 6th gear can be done in less than 1 second(seamless) that makes DCT claims BS basically. Changes accomplished faster than you blink! So no more disconnected than DC RF in essence. You can ride the ASA in Drive/Auto all day. You don't have to repeatedly touch the gear change foot leaver that on ASA is no more than a switch!
@RollWithSoul317Күн бұрын
@@vacoasrebel6729 The ASA sounds great and promising, but has it stood the test of time? The DCT technology from Honda has been tried and true since 1979, with only a few tweaks to improve its performance over time! The ASA technology from BMW was in the development phase for a while before its debut and now being massed produced. The ASA specs compared to the DCT are pretty impressive, but just like any new technology, it has to prove its reliability. Therefore, I will opt to give the ASA a few years of being used by everyday riders and see what the long term results are! Only time will tell, and with companies like Yamaha now developing a version of the ASA, they will all have to pass the longevity and reliability tests.
@vacoasrebel6729Күн бұрын
@RollWithSoul317 Honda Motorcycle DCT wa brought to market for 2010 and has had numerous problems and is still having them. One being that it's not good in low speed and trail road riding which on Africa twins isn't good. Voltage issues have also been a concern! BMW spent 7 years developing ASA which is a simpler system and works better especially if as a GS rider you venture off tarmac. Even Honda have brought in an E clutch now and joined all the bike manufacturers that could have gone to DCT but have avoided it.
@RollWithSoul317Күн бұрын
@@vacoasrebel6729 I own the 2022 Honda Rebel CMX1100 DCT and I assure you that the gear changes are seamless! I have not experienced any clunks in the gears and honestly I can’t feel the gears changing at all in city traffic!! The only time I notice any difference is when the bike downshifts into 1st gear, and that’s barely noticeable! At highway speeds it’s a dream to ride this bike. It’s amazing that when you are in second gear for instance, third gear is already set to engage seamlessly. If I have to break suddenly, the bike downshifts accordingly with the right amount of engine breaking. Also, I can override the DCT shift sequence up or down by simply using the paddle shifters. The only way that I can tell that my bike is shifting is by listening to the exhaust notes, which sound spot on and seamless! If that’s not enough, test ride the Honda Goldwing DCT and it will further prove my point about how precise the DCT is in actuality.
@RollWithSoul317Күн бұрын
I only wish that BMW would have followed the lead of my Honda Rebel CMX1100 DCT and made it a full automatic! The DCT is perfect for me personally, because I can no longer physically use a gear shift lever! Don’t get me wrong, I miss not having a Clutch and Gears! But there aren’t many options out there for full automatic or DCT bikes! Of course there’s the Goldwing, Zero, Can-Am, Sling Shot etc.., but I would love to see more manufacturers get on board. The DCT Models are doing great with their annual sales and Honda has basically cornered the market! So why do you think manufacturers like Harley Davidson, BMW, Royal Enfield, Norton and others haven’t come out with a fully automatic motorcycle?!? 🤔😎🏍️💨🇺🇸✌️
