No. There is enough space between the burners and the bottom of the stove to keep it cool.

Thanks for the great video. How's the road going out there? I saw it's a dirt road but it looks pretty good. Do you need a high clearance vehicle to make it when it's dry? Thanks
@AbouttheJourney20 күн бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The Wedge is very beautiful. The road was in great shape and didn't require high clearance, but getting to some of the camps sites may need it. It's a different story when it's wet. Thanks for watching! ~ Mike

Wonderful Images. The road to the summit from Frenchglen is a fine washboard road but continuing down from the summit to the hwy. south of Frenchglen was, at least in 2006, very dicey for passenger vehicles. I was wondering if that part of the loop road has been repaired at all. Anyway the 25 miles up from Frenchglen is a remarkable drive & should be savered. Not sure about Fish Lake but reports remain positive & Jackman (?) campground nearby (relatively ?) as well. For non campers the STEENS MOUNTAIN resort outside of Frenchglen is & hopefully still is a nice alternative with several trailers for accommodations. I did. try swimming in WILDHORSE lake for a few moments but it proved too cold for extended exposure. The trail down to the lake from the summit parking lot to the lake warrants caution but is just under a 1 mile descent. The walk up to the highest point from the summit parking lot takes about 10-15 minutes.

Thanks! it's an incredibly beautiful place. I can hardly wait to go back. The road past the summit was in great shape and I'd say even better due to it seeing less use. It looks like they have brought it up to grade like the road from French Glenn. I did a quick drive through of the Fish Lake campground, but it was full, so I headed up to where I camped in the video. The next time I'm out there, I'm definitely going to hike down to Wild Horse Lake, but I'll probably skip the cold swim...😬 Thanks for watching! ~ Mike

Curious. So you’re saying no travel trailers?
@AbouttheJourney27 күн бұрын
Maybe a small, high clearance, 4x4 type, but there are some tight switchbacks on a steep downhill. I think there is a sign at the top cautioning people not to take trailers down into the canyon, so proceed with caution. Thanks for watching! ~ Mike

How does it make no sense? Our government wanted to know how well bunkers hold up to bombs of different yields, at different depths. So they could find the ideal ratio bunker stability and depth to ensure survival and continuity of government. Something that's going to come into play anyday now when the nukes start flying. They've been prepping for it for decades. 🤙

Another nice video. I appreciate it when people mention how easy/difficult access is. I drive a small AWD truck that is reasonably capable on roads but doesn't have the clearance or low range of a 4WD. I am often traveling alone and try to avoid places that are too technical for my truck

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. The San Rafael Swell is a really great place to loose yourself in for a few days/weeks. There is so much backcountry here. Most of the roads in the area aren't going to require high clearance and only get questionable when they get too wet. I see a lot of people taking their Subarus, camper vans and SUVs out here so a truck would have no problem. If you have any questions about the area, feel free to DM on Instagram. The Battle of Three Forks was fought near where you pointed out the shadow of the Owyhee River. An estimated 600 to 900 Piutes held the high ground, and horse-mounted Infantry Troops were down on the river flats. There were casualties on both sides, and it ended up being a stalemate because the Piutes held the high ground and numbers advantage while the troopers had superior firepower and a small cannon. The Troopers lost the cannon in the Owyhee River but retrieved it after the battle (LOL, I wanted to save everyone from going out there to look for the cannon). Also, Camp Three Forks was located at the southwestern foot of South Mountain in Idaho, about 15 miles as the crow flies from the battle site. Camp Three Forks was a stage stop on the Winnemucca/Silver City Road, a fort, and a prison where they held what were considered renegade Indians. This occurred during the 1864 - 1868 Piute War, in which about 2,000 Indians, soldiers, and pioneers lost their lives. In terms of human life, I believe it was the costliest Indian War during the settling of the West. General George Crook, of Geronimo fame, commanded the war from Fort Boise, and he spent several difficult years on the trail of Piutes, mainly in Eastern Oregon. I hope you find this info as interesting as I did. My source of information comes from the book "The Deadliest Indian War in the West" by Gregory Michno. Another fascinating piece of information is that most of Michno's history comes from actual Army reports documented by officers soon after each skirmish or battle.

For the lovers of solitude, USA has a lot of places to choose and, lucky for those lovers, not many who go there, especially outside important hunting seasons. Central PA, comments on a trail description: "Allegheny Front trail is increasingly popular.... " "Yes! We hiked there for three days without meeting anyone! We loved it!". But when I was in a similar place during bear+grouse season, I felt like in a war zone, heavy and light caliber shots from different directions. But the regular hunters seem to know what they are doing.
@AbouttheJourney2 ай бұрын
You'll find a lot of solitude out here for sure. There is so much undeveloped, wild public land out here in the west that I rarely see any hunters. Most of the time when I encounter them, it's during the deer season and they're off trail. I worry about some of the recreational shooters. Too much drinking and carelessness.
