Surprised you have the C5 shifter. Look into the C6 shifter. Feel great in the hand, the shifter rod is shorter and it has a 15 degree bend to where it’s angled towards you. Big improvement. I did the mod with the washer on the detent ball and it was a big improvement.

If I were to do it again, I would get solid shifter box mounts or the two piece shifter box mount that sandwiches the rubber isolator better. The rubber mount is “meh”.

Thank you very much for this video! I'm working on a 1993 YJ 2.5. It appears this conversion has already been done as it has the external slave cylinder. the Jeep is no longer shifting into any gears with the engine running, Ive tried starting it with it already in gear and the wheels want to turn even with the clutch to the floor, also making a hell of a noise. Seems like the clutch is not dis engaging the flywheel with the clutch pedal all the way down. First thought was bad master/slave cylinder...replaced it and it didn't fix the problem. Does it just need a new clutch? Also, are the clutch plate and pressure plate the same as 1993 OEM or do I need to get parts for a later model wrangler since it has this conversion done. Thank you in advance!

I have a 95 yj that had the same problem, the CAUSE was unexpected and very clear. The slave cylinder actuator rod was fully extended and actually hung inside the slave cylinder. I did the measurements that prove the rod was too short, it was not worn, I made a longer one by grinding the end of a 5/16 bolt that was 1.5 inches longer that the stock rod. The results are unbelievably better, smooth shifts and no grinding.

Fudge. I’m bout to embark on this same hell whole. Plus I’m doing the entire front end. Every moving part from steering box to the brake pads. All new! I should do a video. But I don’t know how to edit and it would be a 84 hr video. lol.

Heyy Jimmy, do you know if the external slave bearing retainer uses the same seal as the internal slave bearing retainer? Not the gasket, which I see is the same, but the oil seal. It looks like yours was pre-installed, but I forgot to order one, so I carefully removed the old one (that was in good condition) and put it in the "new" retainer, and am hoping that wasn't a mistake!

Yea. I think maybe 99 was changed mid year. Early 99 was built more like 97&98 and the late 99 was built more like the 2000&2001. So when you buy parts, make sure they are correct and not just what the auto store computer says. Please feel free to correct if I’m wrong :)

@JeepinJimmy cool mine is also a 2000. Question: had been suggested by a couple of guys to use a 12.5 tire. Do you see anything wrong with that? It was said that we could use a spacer to bring the wheel out further from the suspension. I really appreciate your responding to me. My parents had a commanche truck and a cherokee with 4.0 motors and both had those same wheels. Love it. Have you posted any pictures of that build you were doing on the cherokee?
