For the last 20 years I have ridden base model HD’s that I purchased new, a 2005 Sportster and a 2007 Dyna FXD, great no nonsense/no frills bikes. I recently went to a dealership to check out a Softail Standard, pretty much their base/cheapest air cooled Vtwin in their current line up … I knew the MSRP from the HD website so was shocked when I saw the price tag on the bike at the dealership … the dealer mark up was ridiculous, turned around and walked out. Goodbye HD, hello Kawasaki Z900rs.

Trust me, you are better off with the Z900rs. It is a fantastic bike. My son had a 2020 that I would ride on occasion.

I've always bought used metric cruisers. Recently picked up a gorgeous Yamaha Royal Star Venture with 40k miles on it for $3,800. I've never wanted a Harley, never will. Couldn't care less where a motorcycle is made. For me it's all about bang for buck and used metrics are exactly that.

I love the tri glide ultra. Without that there is nothing of interest. My knees can't handle a two wheel. And most of these electric models have a lousy range so an electric tri glide is not very likely. This is a plan that may end up killing the brand entirely. Expanding the electric models is one thing, but dropping what you are famous for in favor of something that is likely going to alienate your long time customers is deadly. This is going too far. Going from road glides, ultra limiteds and tri glide ultras to smaller eco boxes has little appeal.

Our Family is OF the demographic you speak of; blue collar H-D people from back into the 70s, live less than 40 miles from the MKE factory. Cut to the chase: if you were NOT paying attention to what H-D did to Eric Buell, because you were not "a Buell rider" then it's on you. The TRUTH of the recent H-D fiascos, still developing, is in/of their financing divisions and processes; fraud. Less than 80 miles from here over a half dozen LEGACY dealerships were shut down, some of them by the FBI; paper crimes in their finance people. It's become such a MASSIVE paper laundering scheme that you cannot imagine, except to see the crash in the pricing fr the stealerships left to liquidate the bikes from those being forced into closures. It's astounding. Those "premiums" people pay NEVER go to MKE MoCo, they are 100% pocketed by the stealerships, with teh stealers of course blaming MKE for those "fees". We just went through the same process buying a quad from Can-Am/BRP: one stealer claimed their 13% mark-up was on the BRP mother ship!? No, another dealer which is closer to our home had no such "fees"! It's a disease of greed in the industry, one we experienced first-hand with BMW 15 years ago, when we actually needed our Legal services involved, to have them do a TSB recall service for faulty fuel cells and pumps on their 650 GS line. In the upper MW there is NOT a single BMW dealership we could recommend. Not ONE!

Does anyone know if you can fit the 2024 quick shifter onto the 2020
@cycletron21 күн бұрын
You can get an "up" quick shifter only from Brocks for the 2020 but it won't be bi-directional to include an autoblipper. That is because the 2020 has a cabled throttle and the 2024 is ride by wire.

H-D has a problem but it's not what you think. My wife forced me to go to the casino a few days ago. It's not my thing but while I was there I did a lot of people watching. I saw a lot of Harley T-shirts. All these Tee are being sported by old guys. These were guys in wheel chairs or chain smokers that didn't look too healthy. I dawned on me that rather than a brand of youthful rebellion, Harley is now a geriatric symbol of past glory. I am not sure that this look is doing them any favors. Now you can see why they desperately want the woke crowd.
@cycletron29 күн бұрын
That is a correct observation of the core customer who is aging out. H.D. is dead man walking at this point.
@JR-bj3uf29 күн бұрын
@@cycletron It's the brand, that has been the goose that laid the golden egg for so long that it's hard to imagine HD being anything else. The hard decision will be whether Harley can revive itself and what will that look like. That struggle is going on right now.

55 years old over 40 motorcycles, I’ve never had a lithium battery. The only real advantage would be weight savings. I’m not gonna go into all the technical reason as to why you shouldn’t use a lithium battery in a motorcycle. Outside of a few exceptions of manufacturers, but those batteries are in the neighborhood of $700. Anyways, I just picked up a replacement AGM for my 2020 Indian challenger. I bought the bike brand new five years ago and I am just now replacing the stock battery. Furthermore, I live in Southeast Florida where batteries don’t last long. However, if you maintain the battery properly using the trickle charger, and in my case, Garage kept. I generally get between 3 1/half and six years out of every single AGM battery in the last 20 years, so again, the weight savings versus all other bullshit, not worth it. This is all just my opinion & my personal experience. Duracell AGM from batteries plus with warranty, plus they are brick and Mortor stores everywhere, so if you ever have a problem, stop in any store and they replace it for free. With coupon code $109 out the door ordered it online picked it up 11 minutes later.

You can bypass the bms and charge manually to get voltage up and then charge it normally. Don't need to reset anything, once the voltage is back up you won't have issue. Can also get voltage up with another battery to bypass the bms. Connect them in parallel . Also you should get a battery with minimum 480 cranking amps to ensure you get 300 Cold cranking amps for those winter days that you run your Harley just to clean out the pipes while parked. Won't take 8 mins anymore.

I recently purchased a 2024 SV650 a few months ago and I love it. Not only is it the perfect commuter bike but it does a good job of keeping up with highway speeds. I know many would disagree but for solo riding, the SV all the bike most would ever need.

I bought a NOCO NLP20 and its garbage. I installed the battery and it cranked up perfect. I let the bike sit for 8 days on a NOCO genius 10 lithium battery trickle charger and without a charger. On the 8th day the battery trickle charger went from fully charged to 0 (red) and it was bouncing from red 0 to orange 1 back to red 0 etc...The battery voltage was not detectable. The BMS failed and the charger has no BMS reset yet both are NOCO. Honestly, its disappointing considering the battery is brand new. In any event, I jump started the battery with a battery pack and had to use the "boost" feature because the battery voltage was undetectable. After it starts its perfectly charged just can't let it sit for 8 days on a charger or off a charger.

Bummer. I blew the fuse on mine last week after doing an oil change and trying to reset the maintenance interval. I guess I had got lucky before. I took the cover off the left side of the front of the bike and replaced the fuse myself. It was a 5 amp fuse. I won't do that again. I guess I will get my owner ODBII reader and reset it that way.

i 'get' tradition...but come'on...who wants to ride a 1910 harley every day? too expensive? Says who? if they're selling then they're not too expensive. Just too expensive for the WHINERS. I bought a harley 2 weeks ago - $1200. cleaned the carb and it's running like new, 11k miles and mint condition. If 30k, 40k is too much then don't buy it...when sales stop they'll have to adjust. As for HD selling other things...so what? If they're selling what YOU want to buy, then what do you care if they sell e-bikes or dirt bikes, etc? They sell a lot of clothing...nobody complains that their a t-shirt company trying to sell bikes. If they quit trying to put their name on EVERYTHING (mirror stems, headlight castings, tires) they could drop tehir prices A LOT. I worked in an import bike shop for 10 years and none of the oriental imports do this. Is that why nobody gets honda tattoos maybe? LOL In the 70s we had an AMF tractor...biggest piece of junk ever. I have a 'harley boat', well, HD edition because AMF owned a boat maker. AMF was goofy

Most Harley dealers want to suck you in and get you deeply under water ASAP with the extended service program, fees, ridiculous financing, accessory add-ons, etc. I only buy toys like motorcycle with cash, which Harley dealers make no money on and don't even want to do, because they know they can sell the bike to another customer and make a lot more profit than selling it to me for cash. I would not buy a Harley from a dealer except at "MSRP" dealers, and there a very few of those left these days. Most dealers rip you off and get you committed to an insane total investment for many years that you can't get out of. It's all just a big shell game, and the customer ALWAYS LOSES!
