Swan was my favorite player as a kid. I always flipped the ball over my shoulder every time I scored a TD. Just like he did in this game.

I remember in the 1980s Sammy White was still playing for the Vikings. He caught a touchdown pass against the Dallas Cowboys and the back of the end zone can simply put his hand behind his back and took a bow. 13:49

This is the first game I can consciously remember watching, mostly the HAIL MARY. Made me a Staubach fan, Cowboys my second favorite team (no more!), because, GO BILLS!!! 🦬

When the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the powerful and well established Minnesota Vikings in Superbowl 4, that proved the AFL had reached parity with the NFL and proved the New York Jets victory over the Baltimore Colts in Superbowl 3 was legit and not a fluke. This lead to the full merger in 1970.

Pete was the greatest, but he'd be very quick to point out that he had great teammates and managers in Tony Perez, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench, Mike Schmidt, Davey Concepcion, Dallas Green, Steve Carlton, Sparky Anderson, Gary Carter, and many others.

As I see this I think of two consummate Reds fans (and friends) who are now gone, Jeff and Greg Wingate. Rest in the Lord's Presence, dear friends.

Joe Kapp was my childhood idol… a tequila drinking, LaSalle driving, barroom brawling, one tough - and empathetic - Mexican. He is still held in high regard in my mancave…

The mocking commentator at the outset sucks. Kapp was awesome and tough as nails, unlike the wuss big mouth, Tarkenton who choked in the big game. And I'm a Viking fan since they were an expansion team. Go Sam Drnold now.

I often dream about how the Vikings, after scoring a TD with one second left against the 49ers in that playoff game (closing to 17-14) could have covered the ball without that second ticking off? Of course even then, a second miracle would have been needed, a Hail Mary to the end zone, but that miracle hadn't been invented on their home field until five years later. They couldn't have kicked a 65 yard FG as Tom Dempsey played in New Orleans.

Welp....just about 57 years ago, I became a fan of this franchise & while I so wish they could win a Super Bowl, they will always be my favorite team. Had to laugh about the Ram's game (vs Joe Kapp) where the field is frozen solid and they could barely keep their footing.

Teams that gave the Vikes trouble were ones that used counters and traps to take advantage of Alan Page’s aggressiveness. In addition, Minnesota’s dedication to the run game was absolute and stubborn, and quick defenses like KC, Miami and Pittsburgh stopped them cold.

My most happy and fond memories as a kid ended in 1969. I remember this season so well. I still loved the game and watched intently. But the old AFL and NFL have a special place in my heart! My first time ar a pro ball game was When the Vikes came to NY to play the Giants at Yankee stadium.

Because of his toughness Kapp was quite a leader and fun to watch but make no mistake that 70 Vikes team won because of their D. After adding some high quality offensive lineman such as White and Yary, QB Tarkenton and RB Foreman they had some offense but were still not as capable as AFC teams that dominated the league during the 70s. Fun years but frustrating as well for we Vikes fans.
