Me too Nick!...born in 63, hate to admit it but I almost cried during the hail Mary..lol.. and if it weren't for some bad calls against the Steelers they could have won that super bowl!

Really liked the Sumerall/ Brookshire duo. Both in highlights and play by play. Don't see why they had to break them up. Maddens' thing was to state and then restate the obvious interrupted by Boom, this and Boom that.

I believe that this was taken from the 1969 NFL season highlight video. Before this segment started, they had already discussed all the other NFL teams ( no AFL though) Loved the team of Summerall and Brookshier, and they were enormously popular. The rumor was that they were having a bit too much fun off the field, and had to be broken up, for their future. Couldn't stand Madden, which is why I have no love for the NFL of the 1980s..

MassVt I have no idea what happened in the 80's. I moved to MInnesota in the 90's so watched a few ball games but hated those teams with Dennis Green , Culppeper, Carter etc. Ahh, so that was the reason. i see. Never liked Madden ...." Get your shoulders squared away ".WTF ??.....lower your head and plow through.

I remember the recap shows summerall and brookshier had in the late 60s thru mid 70s or so. THIS WEEK IN THE NFL and NFL GAME OF THE WEEK. the first show was notable because the had the teams helmets mounted behind them and they introduced and recapped each game with the great nfl music too. That set they had was sort of like a 70s ish man cave!! Groovy.

purple sword 2 Think the floating helmets may have been for 1970 & 71. They changed sets afterwards . That one was my favorite though.

6400az locally in nyc that show was on WPIX 11 or WOR 9 they showed it 2x. Once on saturday night ( when pix had CHILLER THEATER) and another time during the week. It was old school pre viral with that sort of folksy approach. Classic.

This looks like it was from a "This Week in Pro Football" episode right before the 1970 season opener.

The Vikings should have won Super Bowl 4 against the Chiefs

Yeah, and the next season they crushed the Chiefs during the regular season with Cuozzo as QB.

The browns lost 3 playoff games in the late 60s by scores of 52-14 to dallas(they did the cowboys however in 68 and 69 playoffs) in 67, 34-0 to Baltimore at home in the NFL Championship game and of course 27-7 to Minnesota in 69..

Minnesota got a measure of revenge on opening day 1970 at Bloomington when they beat the chiefs 27-10.

My dad loved the Vikings and probably could've told you about this Chief's game but he was not biased when it came to the Super Bowl losses. He was a good player in his day and a true student of the game. He would talk about the four Bowl losses in detail. He truly felt that their best chance to win a bowl game was against the chief's but would follow up by saying the Chiefs were well coached and simply "They just seemed to want it more". The one bowl game that he felt a win would be very difficult was the Dolphins game. As for the Steelers and Raiders "Mistakes, too many damn mistakes" He admired the hell out of Grant except when it came to those Bowl games. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble. He passed recently and after every season I remember him saying "I would like to see them win just one.....just one". I was 2 years old when the 1970 game was played so it's a bit too early for me to remember but I can guarantee my dad had me sitting next to him on the couch watching it. Again, sorry for the long comment.

@@northernlight4614 Did they have a true chance at winning any of them? I remember watching the Raiders game but can only recall the interception by Willie Brown.

@@SGTRIP-dh7fz They kept in close with Pittsburgh. I think they recovered an onsides kick but it wasn't called their way. Refs gave the ball to Pittsburgh. With KC it was turnovers. The fumbled kickoff by West was a killer. They were never in it with Miami or Oakland. I was 15 when they lost to KC.

@@northernlight4614 Thanks a lot! I believe my dad thought the Miami and Pitt. were the worst they played. I appreciate your insight - I'm 51, so the first three S.B. are before my time (I was a year old in 69) so, other than my dad's opinion it is awesome to hear someone else's opinion that saw them.
