A beautiful arrangement🙏. I am new to the banjo and am so enjoying the challenge of learning to play it. I have watched many of your excellent videos and this one resulted in me buying the same instrument so thank you !!. Your musicianship is first class. I do have one question if you have the time to answer which is do you "mute" the banjo head in any way? I noticed a white circular ring near to under the bridge?. I thought maybe it was a felt pad?It may be a transducer pickup up Im not sure?. I have got a small piece of foam under the rods of mine at the moment to just deaden the overtones. Any advice appreciated. 🙏
@mateorguitar
@mateorguitar 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! 🙂I'm sure you'll enjoy the new banjo! The rings are a transducer pickup, K&K Pure pickup. It did mute the banjo a little bit but it's hard to tell. But I do occasionally mute the banjo (but not in this video) by putting some cloth under the strings between the bridge and tailpiece and depending on how much cloth you stick in there it can make a huge difference, sometimes too much. Foam sounds good too!

@@mateorguitar Ah thank you for the reply!🙏.. I have K& K pure mini pick ups in two of my gigging acoustic guitars. I really like them (and I have tried pretty much every other pickup system in my guitars! (including the Baggs anthem)) I was going to mic up the Banjo with a small Shure condenser mic attached to one of the rods this weekend as a trial but am interested how you rate the K&K in your banjo? Your opinion much valued🙏
@mateorguitar
@mateorguitar 7 ай бұрын
@@stevewinchester6611 yeah OK so I had a similar situation, I have the K&K in my Martin and was thinking about amplifying the banjo. Well it sounds better then most! I'd say that the similarity to the real acoustic sound is less pronounced than on the guitar. But the K&K on the banjo is great and definately better then the usual piezo pickups. And the mics can feedback like crazy during gigs!
@stevewinchester6611
@stevewinchester6611 7 ай бұрын
@@mateorguitar Thank you!, Yes I understand, amplifying acoustic instruments is always a compromise for live work.. The K&K is not perfect in my guitars and I put mine through an Orchid acoustic pre amp and other eq to get a good useable sound but it is the most natural sounding system I have found so far. Yep mics are a challenge live ..I am grateful for your opinion on the k&k in the banjo. I think I would go for that system. I have learnt a couple of songs using two finger style on my banjo already so I am going to mic it for a gig on Sunday as I cannot wait to try it out!!. I am working on clawhammer style but am not rushing it!.. I dont want to get into bad habits!. I will be using your videos as inspiration on my banjo journey. Many thanks for your time and best wishes from Cornwall UK.🙂

Mateusz, Your banjo looks like a 12". What type head do you have on it? Thanks
@mateorguitar
@mateorguitar 9 ай бұрын
Hi, I think it's one of those Remo Rennesaince banjo heads or similar. It's factory stock from Gold Tone so might be one of their own. Not sure. It's a 12 and definately way darker and bassy sound than typical banjo head

Good playing, but the volume isn’t very good, due to the sound loss because of the gloss finish… This is exactly why the MD515 Classic is my least favorite of Eastman’s line.
