Sorry, but I don't buy this. (I'm the founder of the SLPOTY awards btw). It's only iconic because it was featured by NG. We've seen see so many similar shots and this isn't unique. We can spot the spray and pray shots a mile off, and there's no genuine talent in this. This is a classic case of picking the best shot from 20,000 other shots, then fitting a narrative around out it. It's truly disappointing.

Photography I think is about putting yourself in a place at a time. The gear is not important. It’s good fortune and persistence despite the odds.

Dude, can't you slow down? It's impossible to follow for beginners and it doesn't help when the guy in the tutorial is faster than Sonic...

I loved this video for many reasons, but one in particular. In today’s world of “sensor envy” in which you “need” a 40MP full frame sensor, it’s nice to see such a stunning image shot with a 12MP sensor APS-C camera, and yielding such a large, beautiful print. Makes me feel a little better about my 24MP Nikon D5600! 👍

A typical NG photo, lots of make up and exaggeration. NG has become so boring now.

12mp D700 and 24-70. Print looked like a 70cm x 50cm. This crazy upgrade race most people are on. It's unnecessary.

Quite a revelation at 4:40!!! I had no idea Nat Geo photographers spray and pray too. He definitely managed to capture an awesome shot, thanks to his digital camera. Imagine how many great shots didn't get taken in the days of film and chromes!

Wow, such a great shot with 12mp and a zoom lens. Lots of current photography influencers would tell us that's not possible.

As he spoke of taking hundreds of pictures of one scene I was thinking that , right there, is why I do not have even a few really good photos. I tend to take only a few shots. Mostly because I do nothing with my photography and almost no one ever sees them. That's why I'm glad there are great photographers doing the heavy lifting that we get to enjoy. This was an enjoyable, enlightening, video.

That was a well put together vid, something to be proud of. My only critique would be the lack of a 2nd camera, set at about 190 degrees, using the back of Jim's head as 0 degrees. Jim is quite expressive and the B cam could have made excellent use of his expressions. Jim made a pivotal point in explaining "... being tethered to reality....." more photographers should abide to it. It takes real skill to do so. There is far too much of " I'll fix it in post...." a bit sad really, because it means they're (the photographer / videograpgher) creating a false expectation for anyone who may, because of their shot / vid, travel to see that scene. BTW the lighting on that hanging shot is superb, he's done a good job of it. 😊
