Hey, thank you for this video. I just inherited an Emperor clock model 300 from my great grandfather. By chance have you ever had issues with the chimes not going on yours? Unless it is broken, I would say that the oil has dried up preventing the chimes from working. The chimes only run every 15 minutes.

@bunnspecial

@@paulsheffield888 If it has never been cleaned and oiled, I think that is the problem. Since it only chimes every 15 minutes, I figure that down time was enough for the dried oil to freeze it up.

@bunnspecial
@bunnspecial 2 ай бұрын
Which way to unscrew hook?
@Reparatheure
@Reparatheure 2 ай бұрын
@@bunnspecial Looking at the 2 holes, turn anti-clockwise (like classical screws). The hook is drilled in its center and tappered. When screwed, it keeps in place the barrel and the barrel bridge. Note that if the hook is too difficult to unscrew, you can hold it with another pin vice on its outer diameter. All pocket watches with upper suspended barrel have the same screwed hook. Down suspended barrel are generaly pin secured. Hope the explanations are understandable (I'm a french watchmaker, so not so easy to explain by written english)

@ Once you’ve removed the mainspring, you can put a pin vice on the square of the snail and use that to unscrew it. Be careful to choose a pin vice that fits well, these can be very tight after years of use. Most are right hand threaded, but some are left hand threads. You can tell which thread you have by examining the direction in which the mainspring pulls on the arbour. This will be the direction that tightens it.

13 year old video and it's still helping us out , meaning those of us whom have no clue what we're doing .😅 If you lived around Dallas, Texas, I'd just pay you sir to fix my vintage pocket watches. I like them a great deal, and I have several but can't work on them. I imagine your expertise with working on Hamilton, Illinois, Waltham, Elgin, and other great pocket watches has improved to where you could do some functions with your eyes closed. I purchased a new..well, ..different, case for one of my Hamilton 940's. I think I can handle removing 2 or 3 screws, pop the movement out and into another one...we shall see anyways 😊 Thanks for the help !!

My employer paid for my HP65 back in 1975 but put it in my name as a perk. When it arrived, the Customs requested me to "Make an entry in the Custom House" which everybody thought was some sort of theatrical appearance "ta-daa!"!!. I went along with the invoice and it was a typical bureaucratic jungle with little rooms and large ledgers, and people scurrying about with bundles of documents. No instructions, no reception, no information. I eventually got to room 65 (amazing coincidence) by asking lots of other people, all customs brokers and agents, but they had no classification code for a programmable calculator, so they coded the import as "electronic parts" and I paid a nominal tariff. The leather case was a beauty and now it contains my smartphone with a HP25c emulator app.
