Absolutely wild that they're consecutive numbers. Heck of a story to go with them now! Beautiful machines

Wow! I've never seen one of those. I have a Hamilton chronometer but nothing like this. I'm going to have to do some research on this. Thanks for sharing.

The Hamilton Model 21 is based off the Ulysse Nardin. Hamilton did not have the time to design one from the plates up, so they copied what was considered the best at the time. I think I made a video showing the Ulysse Nardin and the two other chronometers that were based on it.

Excellent. Now you have 2 nice ones working. I noticed that the seconds hands are different... Keep posting :)

Yes, I noticed that also when I made the video. These are old and abused so who knows went on.

For precise longitude at sea. Do you have the accessories with each as well, and box ...that would be amazing. Utterly luck of the draw with the numbers 😅 Fantastic!

I only have a box for the repaired chronometer.

Nice chronometers-- what is the break circuit for?
@mercuriall28103 ай бұрын
It provides a ‘clock’ signal that has been used for all manner of purposes. At sea, the signal can be used to send pulses to ‘slave clocks’ throughout the ship, that run and stay synchronised with the chronometer. The signal can be used to superimpose a time scale onto graphed data - if you’re recording data on a moving roll of paper, the chronometer’s signal can be recorded simultaneously with another stylus. They were used for geodetic surveys, and as a result sometimes called survey chronometers. Sidereal break circuit chronometers were used for taking astronomical observations. Quartz timekeepers, atomic clocks and the like have now made the break circuit chronometer obsolete,

@@mercuriall2810 thanks, thought it might be for slave clocks but a lot more

obsolete stuff..
@mercuriall28103 ай бұрын
@@termonostruman Yes, but they are a very reliable fallback option in the event of the failure of modern timekeeping/navigation technologies. For example, some Naval forces still teach navigation by sextant & chronometer, because the electromagnetic pulse caused by the detonation of a nuclear weapon could fry electronics onboard and potentially take out the proximate GPS satellites.

Beautiful pieces, would you consider selling one? In that case, for how much? Thanks.

Currently none are for sale. When I retire that will change.

Hey Bunn, why didn't you film the reparation?
@bunnspecial3 ай бұрын
This repair was beyond my capabilities, so I sent it out for repair so no video. I have some photos of the damaged parts before repair, but I don't know how put the pictures in the video.

@@bunnspecial You could display the photos on another device and record it with the rest of the video. Be careful not to show any personal info on the other device.

Buying watches, clocks on Ebay is truly a buyer beware proposition. When looking at the pictures consider what is NOT photographed. I recently bought a fairly inexpensive Seth Thomas pocket watch from Ebay made around 1920. In defense of the seller it was stated that it was 'for parts or repair'. The pictures of the Enamel dial were carefully positioned to exclude shots that showed damage, chips missing from the dial. The threads on the case have some damage so the back doesn't screw on properly. Someone had put the KeylessWorks together improperly so that it couldn't be wound and the time could not be set. That was not a big deal to fix. It also had a broken pinion and broken jewel on the balance staff. I think I'll stay away from buying watches on Ebay for awhile and check flea markets, and thrift shops where I can lay hands and eyes on myself.

Those pictures were taken by a pro. I have bought pocket watches with dial damage that was hidden. Unless it is stated as running, I assume something is wrong.
