Yeah I was physically, sexually, and emotionally abused. In addition to experiencing multiple instances of medical trauma due to anaphylaxis due to bees, a disorder that caused my knees to dislocate regularly, and then reoccurring brain tumors beginning at 21, after the birth of my first son. It was shortly after my first brain surgery that I learned that my husband was regularly unfaithful with porn and later voyeurism of those we knew as well as strangers. At the very least I would say I have always felt that my body was my enemy, my body has always betrayed me, I have always been incomplete, deficient, alone, and unwanted. I have always had to hide the pain, hide the hurt, the fear, and anything else that made me deficient. So now this all is just more of the same, all along I have felt like I just had to wait, get through this now, and eventually I would be worthy of being loved. I have only just realized that I NEVER will be. That it is just my reality, I will never be loved, connected, or cared for in the ways that I have always longed for. That it just isn’t my lot in life. That it is something that I just have to accept… I am defective, I have always been defective, and the only relief will be death. Ugh. I wish I had never tried to do any of this. I wish I had just given up right from the start, the disappointment of sacrificing so much of myself trying to be successful, trying to be something that I simply am not.

my wife went through oophorectomy to remove ovaries for cancer treatment. Now she is having baby expecting this Aug. Do you have any study talking about breastfeeding for surgical menopause? During breastfeeding, prolactin hormone rise but will estrogen is kept at a minimal amount in normal women? Because my wife has completely zero estrogen, symtoms may be severe for her

Did you feel suicidal during menopause?

This is not an uncommon feeling in women who are in menopause. Depression and suicidal thoughts affect 1 in 12 women in midlife

I appreciate this talk so much because I have DID and I am 50 and I am so depressed and I am not sure how my menopause integrates with where I am at mentally with 15 years of sexual trauma.

Your trauma will elevate your menopause symptoms - I hope you are able to find a good menopause doctor where you are and get some support.

Except when your surgeon destroys your ovaries and then you have to have them both removed cuz he sewed one up with the vaginal cuff and called me a baby for two weeks cuz I couldn’t stand up str8 for 2 weeks and had severe cramps ended up going to new surgeon and he ended up having to remove them and after surgery as he explained the mess I was left with tears in his eyes cuz I was just 29 plus a year prior I had just survived serious pulmonary embolisms and then randomly severely hemorrhaged after a vaginal exam by the old surgeon and they did a d& c and I still kept bleeding so heavily that I had to get blood and playlets and was put on iron cuz my blood level was a 4 and they had to get it higher before the hysterectomy that turned into a bilateral oophorectomy so no one would give me any hormones / HRT and to this day 20 yrs later still won’t and I ended up with chronic pain, lupus, thyroid disease and I have grown many tumors but no doctor has even had them biopsied cuz I think I’m just to complicated and I began having heart issues years ago and have been told I’m gonna have a massive heart attack before I turn 40 and I’m now 48 and still feel ignored all cuz I wanted to sue a doctor!!!

Why the dumbbells? I never get that. My own weight is heavy enough and putting weight on your legs can cause varicose veins.

I hear you Emily! Going for oophorectomy in September this year. Not one single word on the side effects, nothing on surgical menop, nothing on HRT... thanks to survivors like you I am preparing a lot, searching for the best gyneco-endocrinologist to receive support asap after the surgery. Bless you, wishing you the best. Love from Belgium.

Kia ora Chris. Originally my rheumatologist started me on hydroxycholoroquine (which is an anti-malarial! But it somehow has benefits for Lupus too) and occasionally when I had bad flare ups, I was prescribed courses of prednisone (a steroid). Prednisone while it can be beneficial in the short-term, does have side-effects that can be difficult to manage, and long-term prednisone use is not recommended unless there is a suitable alternative. About 10 years ago, I was a participant in a drug trial. It was a double-blind which meant the administration team, and myself, did not know if I was receiving the active drug or the placebo. The trial was for a new form of treatment for lupus, called biologic therapy. Biologic therapy (via a monthly infusion of a drug called Belimumab) does not work the same way as prednisone, it is much safer, slow-release and longer acting. Conventional DMARDs like prednisone suppress the overall immune system, whereas biologics block specific parts of the immune system, such as proteins that promote inflammation. In a nutshell, muting the protein in a cell responsible for increasing an immune response, rather than just dampening down the effects of inflammation, like prednisone does. Biologics are not a cure- there is no cure, but they can provide a stability to the condition that many oral medications cannot. Unfortunately, this line of treatment is not readily available in every country and certainly in New Zealand, we have quite strict pharmaceutical legislation that means some drugs that treat specific cancers, auto-immune diseases, and progressive neurological conditions, are not fully funded or available for those who need them. However, because I was one of the participants who completed the drug trial with good effect, I have been lucky enough to receive a compassionate supply of Belimumab every month, at no cost to me. The impact this medication has had on my quality of life is, well...game changing. I no longer experience daily pain, joint pain, harrowing fatigue, migraine, gastric problems, rash, mood swings, muscle cramps, fever. I don't rely on any pain relief, because 90% of the time, I have no pain or symptoms at all. The side-effects I get are so minimal I can barely list them as being of any significance. My body does start to "wind down" or become a bit more fatigued, and slightly achy, when I'm leading up to my next infusion- but that is managed with paracetamol- and thats all. Now, with anything, and anyone, biologics may not be the answer for all. And they are not suitable for people with lupus who have serious kidney issues or other severe organ involvement. Biologics work best when the recipient starts the treatment in a generally managed state to begin with- not when the disease is so severe. I really hope this has provided the information you were looking for. I am happy to have more discussion! Go well, Tia.

Thank you Dr Sam for your work in Womens Health. I loved the comments you shared about educating women; to understand that Drs are still scared to prescribe HRT because they dont want to cause harm - and the great venture you are on to make HRT funded and easily accessible to women. Brillant!

Hello ladies! Immediately subscribed when I watched this video. I get so excited when I see other women coming together to talk about menopause. It's such a taboo subject and needs us women to normalize this sort of conversation. So thankyou both for being pioneers of this movement.
