Emilie Joyal is a French Canadian living in New Zealand. Faced with a diagnosis for endometriosis and pre-cancerous cells on her ovaries, Emilie was advised to have a hysterectomy at 40. Emilie shares her experience and advice for women considering having a hysterectomy and we discuss, at length, the effects on woman’s hormones and the inevitable acceleration into menopause.

I hear you Emily! Going for oophorectomy in September this year. Not one single word on the side effects, nothing on surgical menop, nothing on HRT... thanks to survivors like you I am preparing a lot, searching for the best gyneco-endocrinologist to receive support asap after the surgery. I'm 2 years past full hysterectomy BSO and not allowed HRT until just now. I had endometrial cancer. I am so grateful to be starting my EST as of today!!! I'm on an Estradiol patch. Keeping fingers crossed! 🤞🙂

I'm sorry you're feeling this way. I don't know where you live but testosterone can be prescribed for low libido, the officiel term is Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). Maybe do some research and ask your GP. All the best.
