If you take the grate off and turn it upside down the hole is bigger, and easier to put the chips in! Then turn it over and slide the grate back on; and you are ready to use! That's how I load mine. P

I know I'm a few months late, but I just saw this for the first time. Absolutely incredible....I gotta give this a try. I am curious about one thing. I cannot afford an electric smoker or a pellet smoker, which can run several hundred dollars, if not thousands. But I CAN afford a Weber kettle-style grill or something similar. Is there a way to achieve the same result using a regular grill? I can take as much time as I want with it because I'm going to be off for a few days, so I am in no rush.
@BakersBBQ

@flipfloppingwithMike you’re welcome! Use apple, peach, cherry, or hickory & use chunks not chips. Chunks will last longer with the charcoal. Mesquite is too harsh for the ham. Keep me updated on how it turns out 👍🏻

So you set it to 5 hours but how many hours did I let it preheat before you put the ham in?
@BakersBBQ
@BakersBBQ Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I usually let it preheat about an hour to come fully up to temperature. Keep in mind each specific piece of meat will cook slightly different so my times are just general guidelines. Also, don’t put the meat in until the preheating process is complete. Happy Thanksgiving!

Ik its late but question. What are the pans for? Bought one in good condition at a yard sale and it has 2 pans. You showed the oval one and thats the water pan. Whats yhe large sqaure one for? Is it just a tray to cook on or what? Do i need it in? Probably a bad idea but using it for the first time to make thanksgiving turkey
@BakersBBQ
@BakersBBQ Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! The only pan that came with mine was the water pan. The other pan is probably an extra the old owner purchased aside from the smoker.
@BakersBBQ
@BakersBBQ Ай бұрын
After thinking about it for a bit I am thinking that square pan may be the pan that goes at the bottom of the smoker below the heating element and chip loader. Its purpose is to drain the grease toward the grease drain at the bottom back of the smoker.

Note the paint (powder coating? )I would think fumes from the said paint would eventually enter the cook chamber along with the smoke from the pellets. It's a great idea, but count me out unless the unit could but taken apart and sand blasted or if it could be made out of stainless steel. That said, I'm looking forward to buying a complete stainless steel smoker/cooker like a Smokin-Tex or a similar product. rocket

I wish someone could explain WHY you put it in the cooler instead of letting it rest on the counter. I can't find this information anywhere.
@BakersBBQ
@BakersBBQ 2 ай бұрын
You can hold it much longer in a cooler at or above the FDA safe temp zone which gives you much more flexibility in planning. Also, I like a long hold time on brisket (8-10 hrs) as it enhances the final product so I will use a cooler for that as well. That said resting on the counter works great too for shorter timeframes. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
