4:35 "These are great" . Really? Those off center, cantilever boom clamps have been failed catastrophically on every boom I've ever seen. I don't see any improvement in the Heil clamp over the YouHappyBuy brand clamps. That off center hole just creates too much leverage for that tiny clamp. The desktop and flush mount, and some other brand clamp mounts, don't put the boom hole on the edge of the assembly. I would never recommend, use, or install a clamp on mount with that off center design.

I bought an audio technica shock mount for my RE-20 because of it’s compact form factor but it sags immediately after tightening it to the mic. So I picked up the Heil shock mount and I hope it works because I don’t want that clunky ass re-309 mount.

My family's current computer desktop doesn't have long enough protruding edges to allow any boom arm with a C-clamp... So a desktop stand will do for now.

And still I have nothing, but a small plastic tripod stand cane with my ATR2100 and a probably a hunchback for slouching too much towards.

How do these stands compare to booms if you're using a shockmount and the stand is adjustable height? Does the boom help absorb the vibrations, or is just the shock mount enough. Also, what about floor stands so you don't have the desk vibrations?

Surprised that wooden mic booms are not a thing...I made a homebrew wooden mic boom, complete with cork bushing where the mic holder attaches to the support, sweet! Eliminates all noises through the boom and desktop. Best part, free from miscellaneous stuff around the house.

I want to put a computer microphone on some kind of support. However, no matter what kind of of support I choose, desk stand, desk stand with a gooseneck, or boom arm, if I want to have my microphone in front of me and rather close to my mouth (4-6 inches), then this assembly will partially obstruct the monitor of the computer. What is the best way to overcome this difficulty?

So, I have a Samson G-Track Pro and I plugged a 3.5 mm cable into the mic and the other end into the mic jack on my Canon EOS M50 and all I keep getting is muted unintelligible sound when I shoot a video. Any idea what could be going on? I turned the respective volume controls up and set it for Cardioid.

Hi Dan, Thanks for the info. Do you transmit much desk noise with your Heil boom clamped to the desk? I didn't hear anything but wonder if you are just disciplined to NOT plop something down on the desk or the like. Thanks again ... jacques

I have uses all of the ones presented (though not those brands). I started with a simple desk top mic stand since it was most affordable. It however takes up real estate and as shown, often times not in the most ideal placement. Then I moved to an off desk boom (straight arm) setup because I had all I needed for it already with the photography equipment I already owned. That allowed me to free up desk real estate and move the mic exactly where I wanted it. But it was pretty much fixed in place and could not be moved around with ease. And its stand base took up FLOOR real estate. Then I moved to the scissor boom. There you go! This is, in my view the best option all around since it allows for not only perfect placement, but virtually limitless adjustment and placement options while also allowing you to have free movement of the mic. And they do NOT cost that much. You can spend as little or as much as you would like. They only real consideration IMO is how much weight the arm will support. But unless you just WANT one of the other types of mic supports, I would suggest simply going directly to the scissor boom from the start. And like I said, their price ranges will match the others pretty closely, and you can start from about $35 and go up from there. On another note.... scissor booms just look cool. LOL In my studio I also got a smaller scissor boom desk lamp that compliments my mic boom. And if you are like me, visual aesthetics matter and make me feel better when working. Cheers!

Like you said, visual aesthetics are very important. I recently upgraded my desk setup and got white cabinets and shelves and it made a huge difference. And it doesn't have to be too expensive. Best decision I've made for my setup. And I ended up using a stick stand desktop mic stand. Mine extends 27 inches so not in the way. Works great for me.

Im currently trying to decide between the onstage desktop stand or the gator frameworks. Has anyone had an experience with these two? I noticed the GF is a little more, but I wasn't sure if it was better or not? Any advice would be appreciated.
