I think starting their relationship with the fake number was setting this relationship up to fail. He never really wanted her. He just wanted peace and to not be alone. Peace and companionship that can really only come from Syd. I think it is still a toss-up on whether or not they will actually get in a relationship, but they make way more sense to me than Carm and Claire.

Claire is so plain in a show with so many complex characters that it has to be on purpose. She's a med school resident who has a lot of free time, not stressed at all. That has to be the most stressful thing after working in a kitchen (if it isn't worse), and she has the time to get Carmy out of most of his commitments with The Bear 😅 I think she's there to make him feel bad about himself, she's like an offer too good to be true, that everyone is telling you that you should take advantage of, for a thing you didn't wanted in the first place. And yes, Carmy thinking about Syd to calm himself down has to mean something.

I love sydcarmy but with s3 i feel like they're putting the focus on their relationship in a mentor/student light, kind of like what carmy felt when he was working under all those chefs. It's also a bit toxic at the moment lol, i'm all for them being endgame but i don't feel like the show is keeping that door open for long anymore. Anyways yeah claire sucks she's insufferable and i hateddd her manic pixie dreamgirlness and the fact that on s3 we're told that she's like such a big deal and both carmy and the show don't give a shit abt her lol

Am I rooting for Carmy and Sydney (yes, I love their growing relationship) But I also feel like Carmy is too toxic for Sydney as he is right now 😬 They're good together in the kitchen, she's like his work wife, but they feel like really close friends that get each other's passion at the moment. I think being romantically linked with Carmy would introduce more chaos for Sydney and hold her back from her ambitions. If he takes his healing journey seriously, then MAYBE he'd be good enough for Sydney lol Not rooting for Claire though. I get annoyed Every Time her character is on screen. I think her character is boring on purpose to balance out the chaos from everyone else.

As someone who works in healthcare, I can’t get over how unlike an ER doctor Claire comes across as. For a show that is so detailed oriented and realistic, it’s jarring.

Why is The Bear so accurate? I'll base my opinion off of nearly 3 decades working both FOH and BOH for two young chefs that blew up: 3 years in, this beloved show with the industry behind it and excited for it's future, read it's clippings and crawled so far up it's rear end that it became insufferable. Towards the end of this 3rd season, it dawned on me. This show is actually perfect in a way Im sure the show-runners did not intend.

Season 3 was great. It connects Carmy’s past to the present. It helped me to better understand why he is so locked in. It shows his competitiveness, selfishness and other flaws. It shows how his mental health consumes him and impacts the people around him like Syd/ Richie. It definitely shows his stubbornness and pride. I can’t wait to see where things go in season 4!

One other thing I haven't heard anyone mention is how Natalie turned into a naive child when it came time to give birth. I kept yelling 9-1-1, if you can't reach anyone else and you're in trouble, call 9-1-1. Calling mom felt so forced. And then it was like Sugar had never gone to a single class, or read a single book. I get that they wanted to show how her mom had traumatized her, but god, it all just felt so forced!

I really liked the first episode because it was so meditative and felt like taking a breath but they should have returned to the pacing of s2. Instead, it felt like the whole season was a montage or adlibbed badly. I gget what they were trying to do in the end as well with the chefs but the whole effect is pretentious. It just wasn't a complete season IMO. All of the best episodes in S3 didn't have Carmy tbh, which is a huge problem.

So many miss the metaphor. And the writers of the show probably should have accounted for unsophisticated audiences. Maybe. As a writer, I try to never worry about how smart my readers are, and so I don't. But I'm not writing for the greater public. Claire is so well written. Let's talk about it ... Claire's purpose is to flesh out an aspect of Carmy. In a sense, she is just another aspect of Carmy. Maybe she'll become her own character someday, but, right now, she is like the bear (the animal). She is metaphorical. This is smart writing. Probably too smart for the general public as illustrated by this video. Claire is a manifestation of Camry's struggles in making himself vulnerable and sharing his life outside of the familiar. The danger with taking this approach is that some folks will utterly miss the reference. Like the bear that escaped the cage, she isn't a real character. Not yet. And maybe never. The commenter _almost_ got it. She was on the path! But then she leaped off the road that would have taken her to the land of understanding and instead was left wallowing in a ditch.

@@armp8051 I'm just saying that as a writer, I don't have the challenge the show writers have. My audience is more locked in. For a TV audience, it's a bigger risk for them because the network (I assume anyway) wants a broader appeal. Regardless. You are probably not wrong. I was just shocked at the response by the KZbinr and the commenters. I was shocked this went over the heads of so many. But I myself am not immune to misinterpreting something.

i just started watching the show and im on the fence with Claire. I work in the nursing profession and have had experience working in emergency medicine, where the environment may share similarities to that of a chaotic kitchen depicted in the Bear, except that, you know, if you fck up, patients can die. Her being an ER medical resident, individuals who are subjected to gruelling working hours, known for being at high risk for burnout, receiving little financial reward, having to meet and surpass insane expectations, and needing to lead an entire team of healthcare professionals in a high-stress high-risk atmosphere without freaking out or losing control, and at times lashing out at coworkers unintentionally- i dunno, i feel like her characterization doesn't match with her career. She should know more than anyone how it feels to be in Carmy's position, but i don't see that being depicted. There is SO much potential in their dynamic as their roles share a lot of similarities, but she comes off as someone who "just doesn't get it". I don't know if they chose ER doc to make her seem all the more smart and altruistic and impressive in the eyes of Carmy and the fam, but they kind of fumbled the ball with this one. If they wanted to have a character that serves as an "escape" for Carmy, someone who is too good and too removed from his world to really join, then why choose a profession for her that matches the intensity and emotional/ physical/mental and at times spiritual demand of his? Im not in Carmy's position, but his speech in the fridge made me go " fck i get that", and im sure Claire has had thoughts like that too, the "invest EVERYTHING into this, no entertainment to be had, distractions will cost you everything" thinking, as she's had to fight through medical school and sacrifice many things just to be where she is at now. Am i silly to think that, realistically, Claire at one point in her residency also had a "locked in a fridge" moment, just spiralling? Or is she really that perfect? Nah, i don't buy it. Carmy just needed to chill out (well, not literally of course) have a cup of tea, and decompress. When ur in tight spot, you say some dumb fcking shit, and personally i feel that Claire could've been like "oof bad timing, you're being dramatic af, let's take a break, will catch up once you have this place on better footing, call me when you have your head on straight" Oh and also, Claire???? Your bf is in the fridge??? For a while now??? Where is the medical urgency?? I was hoping when Fak told her and she ran to the kitchen, they would showcase her experience and approach as an emergency responder, they would give her some spotlight to shine, but no!!!! Fam your bae is FREEEZING and you're gonna run away crying after he just spat out some angst-induced bs?? Claire??? Im just ranting now lmao

The thing that really got me about Claire was all the male characters around Carmy exalted about her and telling she was PERFECT. I mean, come on...talk about male fantasy. The way she called him questioning the fake number was bizarre af. I never really felt any romantic vibes between Syd and Carmy, but that's some really good construction of a relationship between two different people with a lot of emotional baggage and anxiety about their futures.

I think the key thing about Carmy's panic attack isn't that he thought of Sydney, its that thinking of her calmed him down. Even if they are just creative soulmates, its almost kind of imposible to see that platonically 😅

These are the same people that love slowburns and want strong foundations in ships -- WE HAVE THAT RIGHT HERE!!! And no way Claire is the endgame, she's just a vision of a person and she will never fit in to Carmy's life in the longrun. Reading this commensection was so refreshing aaagh.

carmy and sydney’s chemistry is so palpable i thought it was obvious that they would get together. when they introduced claire i was thinking she would just be around for a couple episodes and carmy would like her but see something is missing in claire to make him realize that sydney is the girl he actually needs… but nooo here claire is 2 seasons later… it’s insane the writers can’t see what’s right in front of them

I think a sydcarmy relationship would be interesting but he disrespects her and really doesn't see her as an equal enough for them to be endgame perfect relationship. I think id like if he finally realized that it was her he loved the whole time only for it to be too late and her to move on a really realize that she doesn't need him to be a great chef. lets be honest when Carmey got locked in the fridge the restrant ran way better without him.

Your reaching, your hatin on Claire cos it's not how you want the story to happen, I see no sexual chemistry with Carmen and Sydney, it looks mutual professional, I see more chemistry with Sydney and Marcus, Claire is supposed to be perfect because she's of symbol to what Carmen could have, but never will because of the trauma from his past that effects him to this present day.

I'm okay with people not being on board with Claire or not seeing her and Carmy being together, but I swear to everything if Carmy and Syd start dating I will actually hate this show. This is a mentor/ mentee relationship purely, every male/female relationship does not have to be romantic I'm so tired of that boring ass trope. They are important to each other CLEARLY, and they can continue to be without wanting to be WITH each other

I think Claire is meant to be the answer to Carm's problem of his dysfunctional family life and past trauma with Chef Douchebag. Like she is meant to be an emotional anchor point to an ideal balance of Carm's career and the personal life he needs to have. The people trying to romantically link Sydney and Carm are insane for mistaking a peer to peer relationship.

I think their saying they want to focus on the platonic relationship and the restaurant begins to seem a bit disingenuous when they bring in the most boring romantic relationship possible with someone outside of the restaurant. Maybe Camry isn't capable of having a romantic relationship right now. Maybe ever. Maybe he's ace. Maybe down the line. But if the restaurant and platonic relationships are the important thing, then we're wasting time. If romance is something they want in the show, they shouldn't have talked so much about not wanting it. For me, I haven't always liked Carmy all that much and Marcus and Sydney had some kind of chemistry when they made dinner after she quit, but she doesn't seem that interested. I really saw possible romance with Carmy in the table scene, and the way she asked who Claire was had to mean something. If he can get it more together and quit screaming at everyone (Richie has come a ways in this for most people), I would feel better about him with Sydney. Claire needs to go either way, and that includes in memories that don't make sense anyway.

I agree with this. I really don’t care about his relationship with Claire, but Carmy is dealing with that, as well as the abuse he faced with his ex boss back in NY. I’m glad that the show didn’t rush through his arc because it would have been unrealistic for a character as avoidant as Carmy.
