@@mindhead2005 Mick it's 4.7kg so about 10.3lb. A very solid/substantial bass. It has a great sound, especially on the P pickup - like the best '70s maple-necked Precision you could imagine. Just a beautiful bass to play with a glorious headstock. Unfortunately, I'm not set up to record videos on youtube, though it might be something to look into. I have a few nice basses I'd like to showcase. Cheers

I've been a huge Japan fan since 1979 and I lve all their music, but for me personally, Adolescent Sex is by far Japan's best album! Wish You Were Black, Suburban Love, Performance, Lovers On Main Street, Communist China and the title track being the reasons why, although I do prefer the re-recorded version, which Mick is playing superbly here, on the Assemblage album much more! They should've put the song Stateline on it and it would've made the album even better! I was lucky enough to spend an hour with Richard Barbieri, one of my main musical idols, in 2005 at a Porcupine Tree soundcheck in Wolverhampton and he told me he thought the album was "Really embarrassing!" I couldn't agree! Well done again Mick, great to see somebody doing all they can to keep the great music of Japan alive - and you support the right football team too! God bless you, You'll Never Walk Alone my friend!

Definately my favourite era for Japan. This one is fairly straight for Mick but there's a little timing intentional wacky rhythm thing that I see you obviously nailed no problem. Even when he's not going all MK on us he still throws in a couple of oddball off beat notes just to keep us on our toes. 👍✌️❤️Bloody lovely! 😊

Great song. My favorite bass line from that album was 'The Ink in the Well' . Note: The harmonic on 'Red Guitar' that you said was a long stretch , can be done with just the right hand. The thumb touches lightly as the second finger of the same hand picks the string.

I tested one 5 years ago (new: 800€ only). Since then, it is not yet sold in Germany, no one knows why; Thank you Gibson..... Disadvantages: one on real pickup, so no mix between to picks possible to achive the nasal out of phase sound. And to expensive on ebay and so on. I don´pay 1000€ and more. The five string was good manufactured. Nothing to complain. But not 100% the sound like my Steinberger xm2 oder the real XL, but near to it. I don´t understand why Gibson is not reissuing this bass. If it was newly released as in the eighties, I´m sure it would be sold (but not for 3000 oder more bucks...).

I would easily be tempted to get this same model if I thought it was worth spending the money. As of November 2024, I have yet to own either a headless bass or a 5-string one. I considered getting a Spirit model, but I have become discouraged over the need to swap out the stock headpiece for the Synapse version already attached here. The professional features of the Synapse series are admittedly cost prohibitive. A friend of mine was given a 6-string Synapse guitar by his son. I had the chance to noodle on it during a visit to his pad, and I got a sense of how that Piezo pickup sounds on a guitar, as opposed to a bass. (It works better on a clean setting over a distorted one.) This one frankly doesn’t sound half bad here, set against the magnetic pickup. If it were your review that I was basing my decision to purchase gear on in lieu of budget, MH, I would say a resounding yes to getting this model.

@ there are flats on this bass, yes. Depends on your budget. At the cheaper end, the Harley Benton jb40 is unreal value and feels better to me than the squier VM one. I have the Black Frost version of the Kiloton Tribute, it looks so badass, plays like a dream and I personally love the way it sounds. The build quality is way higher than similarly priced basses I tried, and did I mention how cool it looks?? The full humbucker (parallel) sound is a little too boomy for my taste so I rarely use it, but the series and single coil sounds are awesome. I find myself switching back and forth between those two depending on the situation, with the tone about half way up. I like the single coil sound for more melodic lines, I find that it has a lot of definition, and you can clearly hear the pitch of the notes even in the lower register, so I gravitate towards this one for practice. The series sound sits in the background and provides a warmer feel which can sound a little muddier on its own, but I tend to like this one more in the context of a full mix. The signal output of the pickup is extremely hot for a passive bass (and even hotter in the full humbucker position). This isn't really a pro or a con since you can always adjust the volume, but maybe something to keep in mind if you use effects like overdrive that depend heavily on the input level. I always keep the volume knob on the bass all the way up. Having the tone dialed all the way back to 0 is a pretty unusable sound in my opinion, but once you get about 1/4 up and above it sounds great. Overall, I love this bass and I would highly recommend it.
