@6:36 Anyone know the gentlemen's names in the vid? I met 2 of them in the late '80's when tagging along with my father on their annual St. Patrick's day ski week at Stowe. Some fascinating dinner discussiions. An absolute pleasure. Also, I have a piece of Tucumcari's port inner aft foil tip along with pics and a Hercules cap. Foil is engraved in classical engineering detail: 1999.5 hours foilborne. Not 2000 hours.

Thank you for your research work in the area of Archimedean buoyancy bodies in connection with interference and liquid wave dynamics. New technologies can only arise from old experiences and developments. One thing, however, is absolutely necessary: the additional fixed and adjustable fins and surfaces. And thus again too many areas outside the outer skin that need to be sealed and maintained, as well as vulnerable areas. The basic configuration is absolutely top-notch. No question about it. The only thing missing are the slotted openings open at the bottom for flooding the individual sections of the long buoyancy bodies. Because? Length just works better. Otherwise, very good work for that time. Peter

What a beautiful ship, it would have been interesting to see how hydrofoils might have shaped naval warfare.

I drove the Secret model from Stevens Institute of Technology Davidson Lab circulate tow tank , Hoboken Nj , to David Taylor model Basin in 1979 during the gas crisis . We used a civilian van with private plates to be low profile Except the license number did not allow me to fill up that day! So when I almost ran out of gas I had to stop and wait till the next day! Got to see the big basin and compared to our tow tank it was enormous !!! Now all gone …

I made some of this film ine the early 70's. Dave Rowland , PH2/Air Crewman, AFCCG Atlanic Fleet Combat Camera Group. I got hung off the bow with a camera with two trustworthy boatswain's mates hanging onto my legs to show how the hydrofoil cleaved through the water.

I've been watching people practice with hydrofoils for a while and reading about them and I don't understand why they have never been used, to compensate for the braking of displacement boats, not to make them fly, just to make their displacement faster and light. Can someone tell me why? Thank you .
