You probably have summer bearing variety. If they grew long canes they should fruit early summer. That way you know whether they are ever or summer bearers.

I have a cider apple tree variety that fruits right on the branch, not an elevated spur. It wa loaded last year and was difficult to thin without disturbing the adjoining fruit, any suggestions.

So we have a Liberty Tree that we have this issue with. They are super tight clumps and right on the branch. We just try to think these as soon as they start to form little fruit. If not, I recommend using a needle nose pruner to reach in and trim them without disturbing the other fruit. Hope that helps!

If I get mulch from community trees that have been grinded, is there a "wait time" for weeds to no longer be present? Hope the question is clear. Thx for any insight you can offer.
@RoppFamilyFarm
@RoppFamilyFarm 6 ай бұрын
Hey Terry - Sorry for the delay in responding! So weeds may continue to pop up in areas where the mulch is not as think as other areas. Just continue to put mulch down and cover the areas that are thinner. This will eventually eliminate 90% of the weeds. We still have a few areas that pup up, but we just add more mulch. Its a continuous process, but very beneficial for the soil and for keeping the weeds down!

I have a pear question We just picked bartlett pears today 8 31 23. Do I leave the pears in a box to rippen or lay them out on a bench or newspaper individually, so they are not touching. I do not want to put these four boxes of pears in paper bags. Thanks hopefully for a speedy reply. The pears are all in large boxes.

Great question! We take ours and lay them out on tables or on the cement on newspaper where they are in a cool dry place and are not in direct sunlight! You will start to have the first ones ripe in a week and they will continue to ripen from there!

Thank you so very much. I will lay newspaper down on the floor. Do you know if it would be ok to place another layer of newspaper on top and then place another layer of pears on top of the first layer of pears. I will not have enough room to lay these four boxes out. But do not want to bruse the pears on the bottom. I could go to another room in the house but it will not be as warm as in the kitchen. thanks

I am interested in AI’ing my cattle in the future. I see people selling semen by the straw. I was wondering how many straws do you buy per cow? Great video!
@RoppFamilyFarm
@RoppFamilyFarm Жыл бұрын
Great question! So we personally just use 1 straw per animal, and have had great success with this. There are others that use multiple straws, one straw at breeding and then wait for signs of standing heat and then will give another straw. Personally with great cattle in good BCS and a good mineral program, I see no need to use more than 1 straw per animal. Hope that helps!

I have a pear "bush". Yup. What happened is tumbleweeds blew in big time and covered the young tree. By the time I got to it, mice had eaten the bark and trunk just above the graft. It died. I cut it off above the graft and left it alone. A few years later I walked over to it and there it was...1 pear hanging off a lone short branch! I started watering it after that. Now it's a 12 foot tall bush that puts out pears (lots of them) almost every year. The problem is they are hard as a rock and quite bitter. I pull them as you describe and let them sit. They still stay hard as a rock. Actually, they get somewhat yellow before they pull off easily? I even tried the other method of putting them in a paper bag and in the freezer at 32-33? degrees for the time specified, and still hard as a rock. They don't even seem to rot at all? Is this because it's now a bush and not a tree? I sure would like to eat my pears!

If I could tell you a story that relates to good quality hay. In the very early spring when the Sun is out, it warms up the sap in the maple tree and it rises up into the entire tree to feed it. However, at night this sap drains back down the tree so it won't freeze. This process continues till warm weather stay with us and there are no chances of frost. The same pretty much applies to a hay field. Cutting the hay early morning only gets you bulk, the sap has only started up the plant. So if you want good quality hay start cutting it about 2 in the afternoon. (It will be full of nutritional sap) Stop cutting the hay field about 6 or 7 O'Clock as the sap starts to drain back into the roots. If you have a Refractometer you can measure the sap sugar and basically prove the above.
