How we feed our Shorthorn Cattle for Premium Locker Beef

We take a lot of pride in supplying our customers with Premium Locker Beef, and part of that is a good finishing feed program to help create growth and encourage marbling. We have developed this ration over the years and it has worked very well for us. Our Shorthorn Bulls are raised on pasture and hay from birth. We wean them early and put them on a similar high fat feed for a few months to jump start the marbling. We then put them on the following feed program at 200 days prior to slaughter.
46% - Cascade Cattle Feed
46% - Whole Corn
7% - Soybean Meal
1% - Flax Seed Oil
This gives us a nutritional value of 13% Protein, 4.5% Fat, 16% FIber
We weight our bulls monthly and feed this at a rate of 3% of their body weight. On this ration we have averaged 3.4lb per day of growth.

Hey Mark - we are in the State or Oregon in the USA. You can feed cattle fermented grains no problem. There are actually some increased benefits to doing this, as long as it is done correctly and you have the capability of doing so. Hope that helps.
