I prune to the ground for one reason - my eyesight isn't very good, and that way I don't have to try to see if the canes look good or not. Some varieties they say first year canes/second year canes - tell them apart by the way they look (one is more glossy, one is a deeper brown, etc.) - but I can't see those differences. I was thrilled to learn there even WAS a raspberry that could be cut to the ground every fall. I still have problems pruning my apple & cherry - I can't tell the difference between a leaf bud and a fruiting bud. If you could do videos on ways to tell those apart without relying solely on vision, that would me amazingly helpful!

That is the nice thing for sure about the Ever-bearing Raspberry variety, if all else fails, just cut it right to the ground each January/February. I am working on a video on some pruning techniques, hopefully that one can come out next winter in time for early spring pruning! Thanks for watching and subscribing to our videos! We love helping people live the life they love.

Thanks for the suggestion Julie! We started to make one and had some camera issues, so we have some incomplete footage of the trees, but do plan on making one in the future! Thanks soo much for watching our videos. We love to welcome people to the farm and share our love of the gardening, life on the farm, raising cattle and kids 😜

My raspberries didn’t fruit last year (1st year in ground) I’m not totally sure what to do. I guess ill prune them to 18 inches?

You probably have summer bearing variety. If they grew long canes they should fruit early summer. That way you know whether they are ever or summer bearers.
