Nice! But I'm still eagerly awaiting the continuation of your masterpiece Petrichor - perhaps for brass this time? Any chance of that happening?
@DanKeenMusic7 күн бұрын
Ah that's very kind. A brass version isn't currently in the works, or in the plans, but it's great to hear that it could be of interest...!
@solyarisoftware7 күн бұрын
@@DanKeenMusicPetrichor stands out in several ways, including its ability to create those piano/mezzo-piano atmospheres "at the edge of silence," as you described. The multiplayer session recordings and the exploration of multiphonics and subtly dissonant patches are also remarkable features. Excellent work! In my opinion, the recent Spitfire Impressionism may have drawn inspiration from this approach, and I’m curious to know if you were involved. Back to the brass - while there are already some outstanding solo brass libraries, like Brass Untamed, I imagine some brass ensemble that capture that delicate pianissimo/evolutive mood we appreciate. Please consider including french horns. Thanks! Giorgio

Well done! A question, why do you use one track per articulation rather than say expression maps?
@DanKeenMusic7 күн бұрын
Mainly for 1) reverb send amounts (less for shorts, more for longs), 2) workflow (easy to see what articulation is selected). It would be cool if mic mixes could talk to each other (for example, all the violin 1 tracks could have an option to mirror mic levels if required), but otherwise, I can't see any benefits to having it consolidated to just one midi track per instrument

Using the vintage mic it should be quieter on either side? How does it compare to Abbey Road Classic Upright Pianos? Maybe it is a condenser mic? A couple of very nice effects vst, to say the very least. Though i have an addiction for vst effects and instruments, they seem essential vst....

Forgive a newbie question. Is there a particular technique in playing this library? Is Dan timing seperate note start times to sync with the overall bowing time of notes already held?
@DanKeenMusic7 күн бұрын
No need to apologise! This library is very much an unmeasured slow tremolo. I wanted to make something textural that adds life to long held sustains. It's best played as an ensemble really :)

I'm currently using Monogram controllers, but that company seems to be out of business. (I've had about $400 of additional Monogram modules on order for over a year, and I doubt I'll ever get them). This box looks interesting, but I think when I need to replace the Monogram stuff, I'll be going with a controller from MusioTech. Ideally, I think it's best to have a box that can be programmed without an app. If the company goes belly-up (and these are small companies), lack of an app update could leave you dead in the water. The MusioTech box I'm interested in is about $500, so this one makes it look cheap. And BTW, for all of the people saying this should be motorized... Units like this are for adding fluid expression to virtual instruments. It's not for mixing. You DON'T want a motorized box for this purpose (any more than you'd want motorized keyboard keys like an old player piano). It's a specific tool for a specific purpose. There are plenty of other motorized boxed of faders designed for mixing.

One thing I would love to see in great detail is quantizing the finished score to the film so it all happens in sync (possibly with moving the score a little in order to align audio-video events properly) and then outputting the finished product to a video file. Can this all be done in FL studio or are other third party pieces of software required?
@sdantonioАй бұрын
Great video, learned a lot, 2 comments: you mentioned that 1 hour is typically less time than you devote to something like this but doing it live forces you to be more authentically yourself. Miles Davis and John McLaughlin both habitually walk into the studio, hand out scores and say play with no rehearsal and no previewing the score to force the same spontaneity. (comment 2 sent separately)
@grahamcmusicАй бұрын
Randy Newman told me personally you normally get 12 weeks to do a film score Sometimes 8 and occasionally 4 which means you don’t go to bed for 4 weeks. He also said you get 500, 000dollars for a score Bit different from what you say

You have some balls! This was great. I was wondering about the scene when the dog comes in. I noticed you layered a ton of stuff and was curious if you think almost there that was necessary? Do you come upon diminishing returns? I thought it sounded great 1/2 way through but it also sounded great at the end.
@berkefeil5646Ай бұрын
I want to be able do this effortlessly for my job as a composer. Workflow is super important because the genuinely good ideas come when you are somewhat relaxed and confident (as opposed to worrying about deadlines and stuff). When you get a lot of work done in the initial stages you later get more headspace and ‘fooling around’ time, the fun part

10:56 "I can't imagine actually walking into Abbey Rd or somewhere with one of these and being taken seriously." And then there's Sylvia Massey banging out exquisite work with a room full of chopped-up old telephones made into mics, lightbulb distortion effects and would happily stride right in there with a sack full of cans and hamsters and pickles and whatever and churn out stellar results without a care in the world! If it gets results it's definitely not the wrong thing to be doing, knock right on their door with soup cans and show them stuffy old lads what for I say!

@DanKeenMusic7 күн бұрын
I do get some fan noise if I'm pushing it to the absolute limits - mainly with CPU-intensive mastering plugins. But generally, no, it's still an excellent machine for me. I was tempted to buy the M4 Max MacBook Pro this year, but will wait for at least another generation
