I would like to suggest some sort of wrap cardigan maybe, that you can tie. The tightest/ narrowest part will accentuate your upper waist where you seem to be the smallest and looser in the areas where you will need it. Then make the item tie back or front whichever you prefer.
@YarnworxStudio18 күн бұрын
@@jacquelinehayhurst8537 I love the idea of this… my personal issue with ones that tie is the tying often adds bulk and my waist is super high so the angles are off. For this vision I’m thinking looser cardi paired with the tighter shirt underneath. Some of the options I’ve been sharing in my IG stories do have ties!

Consistency answer... rough blend however many batts you need. Let's say 6 batts. Take those 6 batts and strip each one into 6 pieces. 1 strip from each batt makes a new batt. Do this method for the last 2 passes... and boom... 6 matching batts

This video unlocked an old but visceral memory from when I was little visiting my Canadian great aunt at the farm and my time at her spinning wheel. I had completely forgotten the carding wheel part, but I remember now, I can still feel that satisfying pull off the drum and the fluffy squishy bundle. Those fibers are beautiful!

Thank you for this. Coincidentally I have a pattern I’m swatching for at the same gauge as your project and my swatch worked out with the same number of stitches as you got. This makes your video particularly helpful as I can refer to it when I do the maths for my project. I do struggle to get my head around this but I will jot everything down and follow your guidelines carefully. I can see me needing to refer to this video many times before I am confident about working at a different gauge to a pattern.

I have learned the hard way that I must gauge swatch because my gauge is rarely even close 😯 I've made an Exel file to keep track of all the different needles and stitch counts I've tried. And I built the math into that so I can see the size my gauge will produce compared to what the pattern gauge will produce. And I have a spot where I can put in the cast on or stitch count at bust and see what size my gauge will produce. Seems like a lot of work I know but as you said, you want to make something that you love and that you love to wear. And I've decided that frogging is my friend in this endeavor!🥴

Your yarn turned out lovely.❤ When I ply I never aim for a balanced yarn before washing. Washing is what disperses the twist and balances it out. If after washing I have only one twist when hanging straight that’s very close to balanced. If it’s balanced right of the wheel it will be under plyed once washed. I hope that helps.

I think what you did is such a good way to learn more about carding. I tend to paint on a braid when I want a more fluffy prep but also blend the colors just a bit. If I’m going for a blend of different fibers I put them through the licker in(small drum), and yes the big drum is called the swift.🥰

@@deejcarter2003 so interesting, thanks for sharing! When you paint the braid on the swift do you break off sections or do it as one long continuous piece?

This went very well end you batt is sooo fluffy. One tip is when you are doing the first pass go slower with your cranking and the smaller and finer bits will have move time to open up.🎉 Melly has electric carders with finer tpi.

When you split strips off of the batt to feed it back in made sure you draft those out and make that thin like you did for the first bit of locks. It will feed through and not get stuck on the licker in. Also, don't pull on your fiber you're feeding in, that can make it stick to the licker in too. The fiber looks beautiful!

I find it best to add the sari silk directly to the drum as it sticks to the licker in.
@ffionkernachan2 ай бұрын
I have the same club and I’ll tell you everything I learned from Rachel (woolnspinning)! It was a huge learning process for me too doing mine. 1. I have the same carder and honestly find splitting in 3, so like 40g or less for each batt, works best. She also has this carder and doesn’t do more than 40g in a batt. 2. When you’re feeding in, don’t pull back on the fibre, that makes more stick to your licker. 3. The biggest tip - you have to sandwich the sari silk between a thin bottom layer and thin top layer of wool when you feed in, that’s the only way it won’t mostly stick to your licker, so basically make the sandwich THEN feed it in. 4. Do up your 3 batts with the 5 or so passes but then take them all, split each into 3 strips, and mix up so each batt has a 1/3 of each original batt, that’s how you’ll make your 115g the most uniform if you’re using in the same yarn!

I’m a member of Guts too but the Chaotic club.💖 One thing you may want to try is carding all one type of wool and then combining the two on the second pass along with the silk. I tend to do 3 total passes.

In addition, you may want to measure your high bust, and see if you should make your increases closer to the actual bustline, rather than across the shoulders, where you may not need the larger size yet.
