@Paul-D with many guitars at this price point, the combinations of cheap tuners and cheaper trem hardware, mean they struggle with staying in tune. How does this one cope with that? I know you didn't have the bar attached in the video but I'd really like to know this because I am looking for a solid guitar and intend to change the pickups to Trisonics more or less immediately.

Great video Pauly. Well put. Everything has its place. I’m analogue through and through and need that particular buzz. I thought all of the sound clips playing through your pedals and amp sounded warmer and fuller. Digital sounded great, just different. Out of interest what riff were you playing around the 08:00 min mark?

I feel like the sound quality was pretty cut and dry approximately 3 seconds into the first all digital recording. No comparison unfortunately. The Walrus ACS1 on the end of my pedalboard does a pretty good job for silent practice through headphones, but no comparison to plugging the same pedalboard into my fairly budget friendly tube amps (AC15 + DeVille). I have heard some quite nice sounds out of an FM9 but never had the chance to play with one. Did you end up buying the Eastman T64V you were looking at awhile back?

@@Paul-D Some people get great results from using a pedalboard into software to make the final touches. I'm happy with just pedals, and as many of them analogue as possible. Good to hear you are still on the hunt for a T64. I play the T59 and T64 most of the time, but just purchased a Standberg as I was getting a bit of RSI. The Strandberg is a completely difference experience, but also a blast to play. It's also nice to see how your playing has progressed. You learn way quicker than I do! I've been using a Fractal FM3 for recording for ages, sounds great. ... very recently just picked up a Marshall Origin, mic'd up with just an SM57 and the different IMO is immense. .. so digital for ease +demos .. real amp for tone and finals for me .. just the presense and weight of tone with a real amp is hard to replicate (unless super heavy gain of course )

I have a 2006 version, but in red color, which I bought in 2022. I haven't owned a guitar with 3 pickups before, and I feel the wiring diagram for the pickups is quite weird. At that moment, I was amazed bcs u can get all those different 7 sounds with a 3-way switch (5 selection, just like any other wiring like: Neck, Neck + Mid, Mid, Bridge + Mid, Bridge) and when ur pickup selector in Center (Neck + Bridge, Neck + Mid + Bridge) I was thinking a long time ago about whether the pickup wiring could be made to coil-split or not; if possible, it might be even more unique. But without modifying anything until now, this is more than enough for me.
@Paul-D
@Paul-D 10 күн бұрын
Its absolutely possible to modify it to have the same switching you have plus coil splitting for the neck and bridge. But i would imagine it not being worth the hassle and the mess of wiring you would squeeze in haha

Clapton Stratocasters are the misunderstood Swiss Army Knife of guitars. I watched a Norms video where Micheal Lemmo played one with the boost all the way up for the whole video. People who say that it doesn’t sound like a Stratocaster don’t fully understand how to use it. If you don’t understand the tools on your Swiss Army, it’s just a knife!

Ive noticed even shops with the last few older varnish ones left are selling them for more money then the newer truetone V versions. I do like the idea of having a bigsby one - is it pretty stable on the fully hollow body? In my head it would be better mounted to a centre block?

Were the original pots audio taper, or linear, or something else? I am certain that the volume pots should be audio (log) taper. I'm not certain what is correct for the tone pots. Another thing that makes a difference is 50s wiring versus modern wiring, each has its advantages. I tend to prefer 50s wiring, which is a little brighter.

The original i believe are audio taper but was originally wired modern spec. The new harness is pots and caps and wiring all 50s specification - and much better i think 😁

Great playing Pauly - shows the guitars off nicely. I have a T59/V very similar to yours (same finish, with some light relic-ing) and a T64/V in amber, also with light relic-ing. Both are superb. There is something about the tone of the Seymour Duncan antiquity pickups and the ebony board which is particularly sweet and keeps me picking up the 59/V. My only criticism of the guitar is that it is quite heavy and because of the 335-type design you have to reach a way away from your body to get to the low end of the fretboard. The different 330-type design of the T64 with more overlap between the fretboard and the body means that your fretting hand is closer to your body when you're [playing it, and that combined with the fact its a lot lighter as a hollow body does make it considerably more comfortable to play for extended periods. the lollar P90s sound amazing too. But I do keep coming back to the T59/V despite the back-straining ergonomics of it, because it sounds (and looks) so damn inviting. Eastman QC is up and down in my experience. I bought an SB55DC/V because of its incredible lightness and resonance, then discovered the bridge posts had been drilled in slightly the wrong place, meaning it was impossible to intonate the guitar correctly with the supplied Faber wraparound bridge. Fortunately Faber also make an intonatable wraparound bridge (their customer service is excellent by the way) and for £100 I was able to swap in the new bridge and solve the problem at a stroke. The sound of the guitar is as raucous and inspiring as it was with the old bridge, so all good. but the experience is a reminder that with Eastmans (as with Gibsons!) you need to play a few to find the really good ones, and check them over for QC issues. But they are such good instruments
@Paul-D

Agree with everything you said, my T59v is JUST under 9lb so its not so bad for a 335 but for sure heavier. My friends old T64v is just under 6lbs so a different experience all together and with the different neck join placement just feels totally different to play but incredible also.
