Vtvm's still have a place in electronic repair. Especially when adjusting IF stages. It's kinda hard on the eyes to see numbers jumping up and down on a dmm. But not so hard with a needle.

Q3 is the oscillator. It is called blocking oscillator. Q1 just regulates the oscillations of Q3 by controlling the voltage on the 'cold' end of the feedback winding. The dual transistor, and Q1, together form primitive opamp circuit. Try understanding the circuits you work with. Sometimes just bare understanding of principle can help you fix the problem, even without service manual.

For those of your audience that invest: Xi Jinping, “Power Must be Caged by the System”, Qiushi, January 22, 2013: “We should continue to catch “tigers” as well as “flies” when dealing with cases of leading officials in violation of Party discipline and state laws as well as misconduct and corruption problems that directly affect the people’s interests. All are equal before the law and Party discipline; whoever is involved in a corruption case must be thoroughly and impartially investigated.” The results, after 11 years of Xi’s anti-corruption campaign? “Corruption is RAMPANT in China!” -Victor Gao, Al Jazeera, August 2024 in front of a live international audience. The land of arbitrary law enforcement™️.

If the frequency counter and the GPS clock disagree with the OXCO, which is correct? What's the point of having a frequency standard if the 'standard' frequency can be changed by the user?
@moki123g
@moki123g 3 күн бұрын
It's called traceability. Pretty much everything is referenced to something more accurate. In this case, his GPS is referenced from NIST in Colorado, and he will use that standard to set his new oscillators. Once he has those dialed in, then those can become a new ref standard.

I have a Racal counter with Rb osc which is networked/synced to other devices, I have never tried comparing it to a GPS clock (which I do not own) but would be interested if someone has made such a comparison. I assume the GPS uses some sort of rolling average counter?

I contacted a person that specializes in service manuals and converts them to pdf it's Artek . He is going to try to find that manual for the earlier 6200.

Thank you Robert. With the proper manual this should be a relatively easy repair. I will check with Artek. I have used his service in the past and he makes quality reprints.

Pretty cool that a 60 year old radio still works. It might be fun to do what you can for it on the cheap, and without turning it into a full time career. Q-tips and alcohol cleanup, align the cans to 455k, maybe a cap in the audio circuit, and call it a done deal.

Other youtubers have found that resistor changes in the voltage divider feeding the reference pin have to be made. I followed imsai guy's suggestion and changed R2 from 5k to 3.3k and was able to get it spot on measured with my GPS referenced frequency counter.

I revived my TV remote with graphite from a #2 pencil. It's been working fine for a couple of months now. I just sanded the lead from the pencil on 220 paper and applied it to the rubber pad with a Q-Tip. Nice scope!

Hi DoubleHaulCharters, Great suggestion. That is probably what the expensive small bottle available commercially is composed of. It likely uses some kind of binder also. I will try experimenting with this concept (with an old TV remote first) .

The 901DM was my second HF rig. I still have it, but it has an issue with the cinch jones connector on the back. I tried to buy a pair of new connectors, but they're made of unobtanium. I enjoy seeing people enjoy these older radios. I used to love operating CW with it. It had a great receiver that many radios couldn't match for decades.

I looked over at radio museum , and did not find your exact set, but you got her done any way. I have version of one like this, it is a craig. It was distorted also, but I don't have a scope, so, I just check some voltages. I did a complete recap, and it is my daily driver. Also, Denver Public Library has a sam's photo-facts subscription maybe your local one does also. I got mine from them, it was .10 per page. Looking forward to the rest....

Hi egbertgroot, I bought two modules from Aliexpress on two different occasions. Both were non functional. At this point I will either look for a donor at a ham fest or try and fabricate a PA using discrete devices. The modules were likely fake , but they did give me a refund.

Hi Todd. I've found some minimum informations about OKI MSM ICs Search for "y-lab MSM500" phrase MSM5501 4-Digit BCD Decade Counter (DIP16) MSM5564 16,17,18 Stage Binary Counter (DIP14) MSM5564 (Q12) here in this counter unit act as 2^17 (131072) divider. It should give 5Hz pulses on output pin 12 of Q12. That signal is connected to pin 1 of Q13 (SN74LS00) & Q14 (SN74LS04). So in theory, we can use any 2^17 divider instead of MSM5564 as functional equivalent, not necessary pin to pin replacement of course. Have you got 5Hz pulses on pin 12 of Q12, cause you were saying that are 1Hz signal out there on scope? As for MSM5501 maybe we can use other 4-Digit BCD Decade Counters? (74LS160/162 or others - I'm not sure about that so I can be wrong with that type).

Thanks for your video. I've often wondered if it's possible to have the chips dumped and the resulting information archived... I had a guy dump the code on a PIC chip in a washing machine control motor for me and I have the code archived. In fact he even burned me a few replacements. My chip happened to not have the protection bits set. I have no idea if the ICs are protected in the Yaseu, but it's certainly a worthy endeavour. Would you be able to use the DDS VFO vs the external port and somehow use that to give you a working display?

Hello! Good device and work! I think it would be better to use the current source (or a current mirror) instead of Q2. It improves the linearity of this equipment.
