That 20% to 80% ratio of female and male gamers is really sad. Nintendo was right that the industry needed to expand to new people. Gaming needs to be more inclusive of everyone, the way books, movies, TV, and music are.

Iwata was right. The game industry needs to expand and be inclusive of everyone, not just core gamers.

The Wii is one of my all-time favorite consoles. It was simple, easy to use, inclusive, and most importantly fun! I feel the Switch perfectly carries on its legacy.

Early 2000s Nintendo was firing on all cylinders. Nintendo said fuck the industry, and they really did their own thing and executed it to unfathomable success.

This was brutal to watch in 2024. That Skyward Sword demonstration was embarrassing. This is definitely why they switched to pre-recorded presentations.

Iwata's opening speech is kind of crazy watching it from the future. We had no idea at the time, but he was clearly hinting at their strategy and development of the DS and Wii

They use parts from Dvoraks Cello concerto for the intro 👌🏻 It's the best instrumental concerto and Nintendo knows that 😂👍🏻

54:25 imagine the NERVE to ask Iwata, face to face: "if Nintendo continues to pursue it´s current strategy, which has chosen media convergence in favorable pure gaming, does the company realisticly think it can be the market share leader in future console generations or is Nintendo satisfied being a small and profitable niche player?" This was Geoff Keithley's question. In 2003. For Iwata. Less than a year before the reveal of DS and later, the Wii. Just imagine. This video is a treasure.

I can't BELIEVE this conference is 20 years old now lol. It's so iconic. The DS would go on to be one of the highest selling Nintendo consoles, the Wii reveal tease in hindsight is goosebump-inducing, and Zelda Twilight Princess would become a classic.

Mr Iwata was one hell of a boss. You may not agree with Nintendo' capturing the wider market at the time but he basically dragged Nintendo out of their struggling slump with the Wii and Nintendo Switch. Yes he never seen the switch launch but he was heavily involved with it when they were developing it .

This whole event seemed to be catered to the stay at home soccer moms. Which is the shittiest idea to hold an E3 event for, because how many of those people watch E3? Or better yet, how many of them even know what E3 is?!
