Well that is something I never thought about! Don't forget, the sound of the bass is produced by metal vibrating in a magnetic field, but the sound of double bass is generated by the string directly vibrating the air around it. So they won't automatically sound the same.
@khankann4 сағат бұрын
Yes, but this is an electric one, it doesn’t have a massive body to vibrate! However, the pick technique isn’t good for it anyway!
@myronbuck243613 сағат бұрын

It’s good to play an approach note on beat 4, a half step or whole step leading to the root of the new chord. Beat 1 is generally the chord root with beats 2 and 3 being chord tones, scale tones, chromatics, etc.

Thank you for this video. I subscribed to your channel because of it. There is some discussion in comments below that playing ON the beat of a metronome is not groovy playing. I agree with that statement, but I'm not sure that is precisely your point. A bassist can play with a straight feel or a swing feel. S/he can lock in with the drummer on the 1 & 3 of the bass drum or the 2 & 4 of the snare drum. S/he can play "in the pocket". S/he can play with syncopation, or come in just before the beat, or just after the beat. S/he can play an anacrusis at the beginning of a song or song part. Whatever the case, a bassist needs to be precise with respect to the song's tempo (timing). And THAT'S where practicing with a metronome is so valuable. As Nick Mason, Pink Floyd drummer, said: A band is made up of a Drummer and a Bassist with additional novelty acts. We need to get it right.

I had the same dilemma while working out what key to play this song and what would sound 'right'. Your option is the best, but it's such a pain tuning 'all' strings a semitone down. I just play it in D# standard tuning, or in E depending on my mood, but I know the low D# sounds better.

Generaly people thump the string just in front of the neck. Maybe this works on an acoustic bass too
@khankann8 күн бұрын
Usually they are! However, there’s a technique when people slap lower than a neck, and they pick the strings with the thumb when it goes up after the slapping movement. I don’t have an acoustic bass with frets available to check how it’s there. Must be interesting! ☺️

Why do you have those gloves? Don't they make it harder to play the bass?
@khankann9 күн бұрын
A bit, although I got used to playing in the fingerless gloves! It’s winter in New Zealand, and it’s pretty cold in the house. Even colder to play outside!
@graemerobertson51609 күн бұрын
The slap sound on electric bass comes from the strings impacting on the frets. With no frets on the Double bass neck, you will never get the same sound!
@khankann9 күн бұрын
Of course, the sound just can’t be the same! However, not only this, but the whole technique must be different because with the DB you have to bend over into an uncomfortable position! 😅
@KaiJustiss9 күн бұрын
Most of the greats will use one finger unless they’re playing eighth notes, doing skips or stuff like that. You’ll occasionally see people use three for galloping, but obviously there’s a specific context for that. I think it’s best to practice using one finger a lot and use a second finger supplementally when soloing or doing some kind of melodic line.

Do you call F7 chord F major 7 chord?
@khankann10 күн бұрын
It is a major chord, I oppose it with a chord Fm7, so yes. However, Fmaj7 chord is different - its seventh is a semitone higher than F7 has.
