Yes, it’s good for Washington. The only legislation in WA around surgical techs is that you have to register with WA department of health as a surgical techs but that’s it.

This is interesting. I became a CST in 1977. Actually in those days it was CORT, Certified Operating Room Technician. It was changed to CST a couple of years later. I used the tuition reimbursement from the hospital to become a PA on the trauma surgery team, then a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration and finally a PhD in Public Health Education. CST was an excellent beginning.

If AMMI doesn’t require that particular flow of the sinks for washing…where did that best practice idea come from ?
@thesterileguy9 күн бұрын
It’s in the AAMI standards book. But it isn’t yet a requirement because a lot of facilities still have 2 bay sinks. It really comes down to efficiency and ensuring corners aren’t cut. For instance, if you’re using a two basic sink, you are soaking and washing in the same bay and then rinsing in the other one. Which means when you put the instruments in that first sink bay you have to let them soak for the specified amount of time from the enzymatic before you can start cleaning them which is a time waste. And you can’t rinse in that same bay because then you’ll under dilute the enzymatic dosing. So three bays just makes it easier to soak, wash and rinse without disturbing each other.
@StephanieMercer-jm1gj9 күн бұрын
@ I really appreciate the detailed answer. We have a three 3 bay sinks. I am trying to work with my manager to explain to him why we need to have the proper flow be that way. . Right now they are using the first two bays within enzymatic water for soaking and cleaning and they’re doing nothing with a third bay. Oof
@thesterileguy9 күн бұрын
Technically you could do both soak and wash in first two bays but you absolutely cannot rinse into already dosed fluid. Rinsing must be in that empty 3rd sink.

FYI, the CRCST Content Outline was updated since the release of this video (but they didn't update the date on it 🙄). The information about skipping chapters is no longer relevant. Every chapter is now included within the new exam that started September 2024.) Yep, that includes medical terminology and anatomy & physiology. Sorry folks, but it was inevitable to eventually happen.

Hello, You've mentioned in other videos that you have taken the CRCST exam. Q: Does the actual exam have fill-in-the-blank questions as well as multiple choice questions or just multiple choice questions? I'm asking because I'm studying with the 9th edition manual and workbook, plus I've purchased your Supreme bundle. In the workbook under the Practice Exercises there are fill-in-the-blank questions. I'm wondering if you answer one of those with the incorrect spelling of the word (i.e. one of the bacterium) would that answer be marked as incorrect vs. a multiple choice answer will have the correct spelling of the word(s). Thanks✌❤

I made a video on getting certified without the 400 hours which is called “Provisional Certification.” To get the full certification you need to find a hospital that will let you do an internship or get hired to get your hours on the job.

I am trying to complete my pre reqs for the surg tech program here in gr mi. They say i have to work at a major entity here, like the big hospital in town. I have to apply for the apprenticeship at work, if i qualify. It all takes 2 years. But its all accredited and ill have an associate's. Does this sound typical?
@thesterileguy16 күн бұрын
It’s typical for a 2 year degree program that you probably spent a lot of money on, hopefully no student loans. Unfortunately, you’re gonna make the same amount as someone who does a 4 month program. 🤷♂️

I'm not sure what you mean by "reformulated in 1930 something". Any sterilant is highly dangerous and toxic. If not, it wouldn't sterilize. People don't take hydrogen peroxide vapor's toxicity seriously enough.
@thesterileguyАй бұрын
A method of direct oxidation of ethylene in the presence of silver catalyst was developed in the 1930’s which is still used today. The old way prior to that was treating 2-chloroethanol with potassium hydroxide. Chemistry stuff.

And yes, you’re right, all sterilants pose risk, whether moderate or severe and should all be treated with respect and proper PPE.
