There was a couple more things Jefferson could've defended himself better, but Douglas was always gonna win right from the "straight outta bandage" line. The "slave momma" line definitely sealed it. That argument is sustained, no objections.

Okay so your Trekkie the Vampire Slayer is made for kids and by extension the comments are turned off, but I just wanted to say that is amazing Photoshop work, like you could do Bully McGuire videos with that kind of talent. Mork is top tier if you haven't seen them. Anyway I love them and I would totally watch a tiny show of your adventures.

Thank you both for your compassion during this show reaction, however throughout all of the reactions you’ve stated this happened in Russia, which is incorrect, it happened in Ukraine which was one of the fifteen republics which made up the USSR (the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics).

You got into Buffy Reactor Awards. Make sure to skip the spoiler at 13:50 I have a time stamp to jump to pinned: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJq2op6ZfbqdepY Bahahahahahaha and 😊 at the "special" date reaction. Great episode. The ending gets me every time. The first evil was an interesting concept for the Buffyverse and the snow always suggested to me there was a first good as well. Which makes more sense as it fits with the laws of thermodynamics equal and opposite etc. Interesting how the one side never shut up while the other was quiet, practically invisible and yet timely and could have meant nothing and everything at the same time. Also yeah, it was extremely rare in cali to snow. Never once during a heat wave. I can see issues with the episode but not sure I grasped his sorry. We all have the ones we like so no worries. I mostly Found willow funny but off-putting this episode like she's not really ready for a relationship. It was like she tried to force patch everything instead of actually dealing with the consequences. Oz mostly gave in cuz he missed her. Agreed on all your points of why it's good.

I always love that this episode makes viewers realize how much they actually like Cordy way more than they thought they did. Also, Cordy's injury was based on the actresses real life injury she got as a child when she fell on a rebar pipe. She still has the scar to this day

Actually, the series isn't a continuation of the movie. It's the continuation of a movie that never got made. Originally Joss wrote a movie for Buffy and it was darker and grittier. It was more like the show is. A studio picked it up and planned to make it. Once they had the rights to make it though, some exec decided it would do better as a campy comedy, so they stripped out a lot of stuff and jammed in a bunch of cheesy stuff. Joss made this series as a way to make up for how the movie was ruined. As such, this show continues on from the original movie he wrote. That's why some things don't line up with the movie you saw, like the gym not actually being burned down.

The worst thing about Xander's lie is, Buffy could have changed strategy if she knew what Willow was doing. There is a big strategic difference between going in alone to a den of vampires and going in knowing one could switch sides part way through the fight. She went in on an all offensive battle. Her intention was to kill them all and use Angelus' blood to close the gate if he opened it. The big thing was using surprise as she was so outnumbered. Sure she had Spike helping, but he was an unreliable variable. If on the other hand, she knew Angelus might revert to Angel soon, all she would need to do is delay Angel from opening the portal by using a purely defensive strategy. It's hard to win using defense, but, but it's also hard to lose. You're goal is to maintain a stalemate until something changes. When Angel changed sides, the balance of power would turn to Buffy and the other vampires would give up and try to flee. So, Xander in a way, forced Buffy to kill Angel, not the evil murderer, but her old boyfriend. I know many might claim the valid reasons why what Xander did could be a good thing, but we all know he did it mostly out of petty jealously and only a little out of big brother protective feelings.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the whole show. Not for the episode itself, which is okay, but for the development of the slayer lore. How does the slayer interact with humans? Can the slayer kill a human? The show's initial premise seems a bit jokey. A popular blond airy headed teenage girl has the power to be the monster all monsters fear. If taken seriously though, the premise creates a plethora of questions that need answering. As the slayer, she is obligated to kill. To kill, she has to judge who is worthy of death. In the beginning, it was simple. Vampire equals kill. Then she met a witch. A witch is human who uses superpowers. If one uses super powers to kill, does Buffy have the right to kill them? Well, that issue was sidestepped before by having the witch dispatch herself. Here though, we deal with, does Buffy have the right to kill a man who is just a rotten guy? Clearly the answer was no. In fact, Buffy went so far as to say she didn't even have the right to hit hom with her full slayer strength. What I really love most about this episode is, how it builds a logical foundation future episodes will build off of. It also relates closely to the Lie To Me episode. I just love a show that builds up it's universe and the rules that guide it over the course of the show, so when the big exciting action later on makes sense, without having to cheesily cramp in out of place explanations for why Buffy did something a certain way. Now, she just does an action, and we can refer to episodes like this as to why it had to happen a certain way. It's just good writing.

I think that was an unfortunate miscalculation on the part of the writers (both Male writers). It was supposed to be obvious later in the episode that Joyce was being drugged the whole time. Notice how Buffy never once ate Ted's food? In the lore, it was Buffy's slayer sense warning her there was something wrong with the food. Story mechanics wise, it was an indicator that all of Ted's cooking was drugged. The unfortunate reality that many mothers ignore when their children tell them they were abused by a stepparent or someone they are dating. I still remember a story of how a little brother hid in a closet and filmed the attempted rape of his sister by the man her mom was with. Her mom still wouldn't acknowledge it happened for another 6 months afterwards despite the video evidence it happened and the little brother backing her up. So, because it's simply too common most people tend to forget Joyce was drugged and feel she was simply one of these delusional women so desperate for a man in her life that she would ignore Buffy's pleas for help.

it's funny seeing reactors say "i understand buffy not telling her family or friends, but she should be telling her watcher." it's funny that you have no problem seeing buffy hide things from the people we all know are supposed to be closest to us -- our friends and family -- but it's this made-up relationship that doesn't exist in the real world, buffy's watcher, that's the relationship you're most protective of.

Yes that’s true but we don’t tell I friends everything about what’s going on with us so that’s not so strange to me and we keep things from family as well. What I was trying to say is that this was a watcher/Slayer dynamic that should have been respected there. I get why she didn’t tell Giles I just didn’t agree with it. Her friends are another story especially with how they all reacted to it when they did find out.

@@christytrekkieone3120 i think it's mainly xander that was the problem. willow and oz would have been fine. as for giles, maybe it was less about him not being able to handle it, and more about buffy not being able to handle having that conversation with him. "yeah, the monster that killed jenny calendar? i've been nursing him back to health."

Cordy's death scene was my fault, there was a poll over the summer about Jenny Calendar and which Scooby they should have lost instead. I had addendums to my essay on why it was a no brainer it was Cordy, that all ended after this episode. From this point forward, I had to admit out loud, that I loved Cordy.

"Honestly. is there anything keeping you here?" / Even if it were all about Angel, it's not like he has to remain in Sunnydale. As much as I enjoy Spike (and that's a LOT), I agree with Mark. Spike's an a-wipe. He's terrifying when holding the broken bottle to Willow's face (and Alyson Hannigan 's performance in that moment really brings it home), the switch between hilariously pathetic and that gives me whiplash. The whole sequence with him and Joyce is comedy gold, though. I love seeing reaction's to Cordie's funeral fake-out, seeing Mark go from truly disliking her in season one to "you're kidding me" is a treat xD

The reason why Spike is so popular, besides James Marsters' incredible charisma, is the fact that he's a very complex character. He's evil because he lacks a soul but he's also intelligent, charming and capable of a great deal of emotion. Contrast that to most of the vampires in the Buffyverse, who (wait for it) just suck....
