I still have my 1969 Univox Les Paul and it's still sweet! I installed a Brass nut and Brass saddles and it's had a fret job. You can see it in action on my page. I bought it in 1972

We do not own fine instruments, we have stewardship. It’s our duty to enjoy them, share music through them, and someday “pass it forward.” I love my Monteleone mando, a am dedicated in seeing that future generations experience it. ❤

Thank you for loving YAMAHA so much. At that time, YAMAHA was durable, inexpensive, and had a concept for the masses. Of course, export was also considered. In fact, from this period until around the 90s, all YAMAHA models were pointed out to have weak necks. Now, you can see it by looking at the neck of the LL model. YAMAHA is always evolving, and the engineers have pride and passion. I think you can see it in the development of the ARE TOP, the new FG series, and the unique pickup system. And finally, FG produced the high-end model FG-9 in collaboration with American engineers. We hope you will continue to support YAMAHA acoustics. Thank you! from🇯🇵🙇‍♂️

the strap button on the headstock was popular in the 60's, similar to what they did with 6 string guitars. they used straps that were thin, and it was thought made life easier and prevented neck dive. These died out soon and people when to the wider modern straps and no hooking it to the headstock.

Fender didn’t use the 6sc7 tubes until the early 1950’s, ‘52-‘53 era. 1947 would have been a woody style. Yours is definitely not a prototype. Nice amp but I think it is probably a 1952- early 1953, when Fender went to the Wide Panel look. The serial number should be on the underside of the chassis, turn it upside down and you will see even with the back panels on.

I’m obsessed with MIJ guitars. I agree that 67-72 is a great window. I’d even narrow it down to 67-70. Never had a Yamaha fg- I have had a lot of Yamaha G series classicals, and imo the earlier the better. I have probably had about 14 MIJ guitars from 1967-1980- ironically the steel string acoustic I play now is a 1980 - Suzuki Three S W200. Thanks for the video! That’s a great sounding guitar and nice playing.

..so it was raining outside on a icey March evening and the only thing I could think of listening to to make me forget my "Flu" was Freddie Kings Hideaway LP. After it put me into "Positive" mode I got curious as to the amps he used and I was informed he used a Gibson GA40 like yours on that LP...and then your viddy popped up and it all became clear to me where that smoothe high mid came from. I know you got hooked as soon as you plucked the 1st Low E string. The best part is the amazing story of "Maggie" and her Sons warmth to you. From a rainy day in London " Thankyou" for sharing this very personal episode in your life.

A couple of years ago, i've been give a mission to fing a used guitar for my wife's cosin. It was from her Grandma and she had a specific budget. I found an FG-331, OM size, not from Japan, with a 1/4 inch gap at 12th fret. It had a great sustain so bouth it 140$ canadian dollars, brought it to a luthier for 90 dollars he made it great! I had the chance to play on it for 2 weeks and totally felt in love. It was great all across its beaffy neck. Capo anywhere and it kept its great sound, sustain, projection. I told wife i'd find something else for the kid. She told me i already had guitars and was ok. You know what i did? . . . . I LISTENED TO HER! 😢😢😢

The 8” in my 54 Princeton handles my 68 Les Paul Custom pretty well although I don’t push it too hard. I use it in stereo with a 64 Vibro Champ for the best clean tone I’ve ever heard. Those with a little reverb and delay and OMG! Oh, and some tremolo from the Champ. Killer!

I have a similar vintage ga40 LP that was supposedly owned by Tal Farlowe. I can’t be sure. It sounded awesome 20 years ago after some caps were replaced. I fired it up more recently and it needs some serious circuit restoration as I suspect some resistors have drifted to far and some blocking caps are leaky. Those pentodes in the preamp sound really cool.

I worked in a Music Store in the 70's. We were a Fender, Gibson, Martin and Guild dealer. Those red label Yamaha's were floating around and were truly giant killers - particularly the dreadnaughts. They sold for 150-250 bucks back in the day.

That's great! When I started playing in middle school, a teacher in my school had an old Yamaha that belonged to the school. I would hang out after school play that guitar probably more than he liked. That kind of thing makes these old Yamahas important.

I very recently got myself a 1933 Kalamazoo KG-11; one of the examples that has the solid (not kerfed) interior binding, and what I think they call a "target style" burst, where the top is almost entirely black except for a grapefruit sized circle just next to the sound-hole. It appears to have never had any pick guard installed; and it has a moderate V neck. I'm amazed at how good shape she's in, with nary a ding one the headstock or the neck. It's a featherweight build, at around 3 lbs. I don't think it sounds quite as good as your L-00, but it's still in the process of being set-up, and may need some new frets and a new nut, as well as the neck reset that it's just had. But I have to say, it is most definitely the 'sister' to your Gibson L-00; it sounds very similar; who knows but they may have been on the bench together? It doesn't have a serial number, that I can see, but it does have a three digit ink stamp inside. I was told it was built in 1933 based on the 'target burst', the non kerfed lining, and the numbers... I may consider upgrading the tuning machines, as the (original) ones on it aren't the greatest, and I like to do a lot of alt-tuning. Do you have any recommendations as to what model tuners would be right to use? Cheers!

I own a '63 Martin 5-16 Terz that sounds huge in standard or open tunings; however I haven't put it into Terz tuning yet, as it's not really a tuning that I feel I need. I had a thought to try Nashville tuning with it as well sometime... But I'm really surprised at how balanced and sweet it sounds in standard or open D, so that's where it lives for now. I had to have a pro neck reset done, which made all the difference in the world for playability. I have quite a chunk of change invested in this little guitar, but apparently Martin made all of 127 pieces of this particular model, so it's pretty scarce... But most importantly I'm really happy with its sound and playability, thanks to the recent neck reset.

There are some solid resources online that, when corroborated with other sources, can be telling. With a guitar void of serial numbers or the like, you're mainly dating by features because those often changed with the times.

If you're not already aware, it seems that Gibson has sort of re-adopted specs from that time frame on their mandolins. As of this time last week I believe. Early to mid-20s from what I understand. You present yet another fine bit of entertainment. I really appreciate the focus on the finer/vintage/antique instruments and equipment.. Also I want to give you props for personally responding to replies/responses. I can't say how much I appreciate it and how extremely different it truly is..
