Reinventing the wheel, but I suppose its all about the DIY aspect. A simple diy jaw crusher wouldnt be too hard to make, crushing glass is relatively easy.

Perhaps a wedge shaped hammer into a similarly shaped receiver with a slot at the bottom would allow crushing to a finer output than the flat hammer against flat plate? As pieces became smaller, they would fall further to the bottom of the \ / and allow the hammer to crush them finer until they are small enough to fall through the slit.
@JeffAbelVideos5 ай бұрын
That is a great idea. The only challenge I can think of is that the receiver (strike plate) would still need to be removable, so the housing would have a larger gap on the side. Maybe a rubber flap could cover the larger opening.
@thom170435 ай бұрын
Too bad YT doesn't allow images in responses. I'm not sure I'll be able to describe this adequately. If the receiver is a cartridge that slid into the side of the main shaft, the receiver could have a larger plate that butts up against the sides of the main shaft to seal it off. The next step from a wedge would be a pyramid to further limit the size of the material exiting the shaft.
@JeffAbelVideos5 ай бұрын
@@thom17043 That makes sense, I understand what you're describing and the cartridge would serve also as a guide for the hammer. I used spacers around the hammer shaft to prevent it from rattling around but rails are better and could hold the cartridge in place. Pyramid shape is better in principle but practically I find that smaller holes have lower throughput. If it's several pyramids (like the shape of a meat tenderizer) then that would be a good alternative.

good design but requires an adjustable step to account for the ergonomic differences between operators. I have shoulder problems that would make operating it difficult/painful.

What did you with the hammer mill parts behind you? Hand crushing is fine if you are only testing, after along day running up and down hills, in and out for old mines. Hand crushing can get quiet Tuckering out. I’ve got a small hammer mill, would like to see if I could it make more efficient. It’s just has chain now, those actual parts are made for this kind of crushing. Great idea on your design 👍but I would use my jack hammer. But not everyone has one handy. That’s why I say great design.👍
I’m new to all of this, So you can sell the powder gold just like you can the solid gold? Like can you take it to a gold shop and sell them the fine powder gold?

Have you thought bout a using The head of a bushing hammer or even a bushing hammer rotohammer bit? Just wondering if there would be more force with smaller impact points or would that damage the material to much? Attached is a picture of the bit in case you hadn't heard of one. I see mt baker is busy on youtube. You should totally see if your chromium ore for casting the hammers has any platinum in it...at worst you have to dry it out and add powdered chromium ore into the crucible around the steel

Clever use of the treadmill! If you're going to put steel grinding media in, I'd suggest swapping out the aluminum keg for something made of steel like an old BBQ propane tank. Aluminum won't last long.
@JeffAbelVideos4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It actually was a steel keg, I misspoke. Recycled old nuts from salvage work great to help expedite the grind.

I like it! Saw the treadmill video and that's cool! Really like that one! Have cousins in Corvallis that's Beautifull area. Went up to quartzville to check that out a couple years ago. I think lo tech is the way to go but best for isolated hi grade deposits. 12 v dc solar power at least. Chainsaw powered crushers etc etc.
