Always best to wear a tie if meeting clients. Just looks better. I worked in M&A but then transitioned out with a Masters in quant finance - 7 figure salary and no clients so can be more casual in the office with no tie now, except when we are meeting investors for fund raising. Compared to our US or Chinese friends in their nations (i had colleagues from both), that commute is nothing but not great for Brits on a tiny island who hate long commutes. I bought an apartment in Canary Wharf just to avoid the commute that keep as investment property now.

Fully agreed, it is very important to look smart and to dress slightly better than your clients/stakeholders. Sounds like you have a great role! The commute time isn’t too bad, it’s the unreliable transport system that causes my main frustrations 🤣

Great video - completely understand the commute - I'm a Wealth Manager that endures a similar 1.5hr commute when I do need to go into the office, but the Wharf is special on a nice day!

Great vid! Working in HR/recruitment, i've seen the following-it used to be the case that the highest salaries in the US were in Boston and on the West-coast, in the past couple of years, with the increase in remote working for industries such as software engineering, I've seen salaries match the West in more central areas such as Texas and Tennessee.

My first US based job but fully remote Used to earn $33k even I got so so many comments in London that it’s pretty good, and doable. Then just last month I moved to the US for a hybrid and it’s $89k for an entry level position😂 taxes play a role too. In Germany, I would 40% tax on this, vs my effective tax rate atm which is 15% in the US

Thank you for sharing. That is really interesting to hear. Taxes in the UK and Europe are rather high in my opinion. In the UK between £100-125k there is an effective tax rate of 60% as you start to lose your allowances.

Agreed, there are definitely pros and cons from living in either country. Job security is generally higher in the UK also I believe as the redundancy process is quite thorough.

Not sure about the tax rate. If you live in California or NY or a bunch of other places chances are you pay higher taxes than the UK. America is great at spending double the money for half the quality in a lot of areas.......healthcare, education, housing, food, cars, etc.

3:00 Nah I felt it, I remember buying my first camera cause I thought I was going to do facecam videos when in reality I’m doing gameplay commentary with a $60 capture card & a $15 (it was on sale, the OG price is $30 lol) usb mic 💀. Bought some lighting equipment too, but gonna save those when I make short films. But yeah, rn just making videos & pushing through, even if they’re a bit short 😅

Thanks for your comment, sorry for the delayed response, I’ve been on my honeymoon. For me the most important thing to compare is your overall earnings before tax as earnings can come in many forms: hourly rate, salary, bonuses etc. Hopefully you found the video insightful.

I fully agree, it’s surprising how some people earn significantly more than average yet think they’re paid poorly. I think their biggest issue is their expenses are too high so they feel poor.

There is no gender pay gap. Maybe a gender earning gap, due to women taking time off for maternity, but we don't have a gender pay gap.

Thanks Tom for your message, for me what is important is that there is equal pay for equal jobs (considering experience, qualifications etc), the gender pay gap is a slightly flawed metric as if the company has a male CEO and predominantly male board it can skew the figures

@@Dean-Edward Not sure this interpretation of the figures is correct, using the median when discussing gender pay will nullify the effect of outliers (at both ends, high and low incomes). What will affect the figures is the distribution of each gender across the different sectors of employment, to create a meaningful comparison the median earnings within a sector should be considered - ideally as an overlapping distribution if you can get the data
