How can this NOT be a recall from Ford for the defect in their subframe? This is extremely dangerous. If this isn't a recall then the federal government is not even trying to protect the public. This is outrageous!

Thank you for doing this video! I just took delivery of my 2024 Maverick, that I ordered last July! I will be getting the magnetic drain plug for it that you showed, thank you for that! FYI Valvoline has a new oil out that they developed specifically for hybrid engines, that’s what I will be using in my Maverick. Also curious if the fasteners are the same as your eco boost Maverick, and if you’re having the same issues with the belly pan cover on the hybrid or not? Thank you!

I'm going to keep it. Honestly compared to other new vehicles the benefits of owning this for the cost outweigh the issues thus far. I'll find a dealer that'll fix it, I had issues with this dealer with the 2022 as well, found out how to fix it just had to call ford and they called the general manager. It's unfortunate but that's the game you have to play these days, documentation is key in a winning argument with service departments.

some insight from the other side. i work at audi, and the 4 cyl are notorious for the thermostat housing/water pump leaking. we cant do anything about it under warranty unless its an active leak. meaning, if you see a bunch of *dried* coolant from the thermostat area and the coolant level is super low, we cant do anything, unless theres a customer complaint. even then, we can only do the t-stat and have to re-use the water pump and tell the customer to come back in 100 miles when thats leaking too lol. you might be looking at a similar situation here where their hands are tied and theyre limited to what ford will cover. trust me, the tech likely knows theres an issue and knows what needs to be done but sometimes they arent allowed to fix the problem.

A great truck doesn't leak atf at 10k miles. Wait until it gets 5 years old and see if you still think its great. When my dad test drove his new truck he was looking at buying I noticed a squeal. I thought it was brakes from sitting on the lot a couple months. Still did it at 700 miles after he bought it and I told it he needs to take to the dealership. The transmission input shaft seal was damaged during installation at the factory. The dealer put in a new input shaft, seal and couple parts. Thus far 8 years later it has been a very good truck. Ford is spiraling closer to the crapper every passing day. Ford no doubt should pay to fix your truck and the dealer needs to make sure Ford pays.

I want to thank you for all of the videos that you made on this topic. With these as guidance, I was finally able to get the job done was nice weather arrived. I did the job by myself on my driveway using jack stands. A few comments for any other DIYer planning this job: The biggest issues that I had centred around the fact that I had the AWD and the PTU sticks out the rear and made pulling and replacing the subframe much more difficult. I simply could not manage to get the subframe past the PTU. Eventually, I gave up on the idea and removed the two bolts holding the steering rack. I was then able to fish the steering rack out the wheel well. After this was out of the way, removing the subframe was much easier. When I put the frame back, I reversed the process. It wasn't too difficult and I was even able to check torque. I also had removed the control arms to make it lighter and easier to maneuver. The other thing that you did but didn't specifically mention was loosening the bolt and two nuts that attach the trans mount to the subframe. It was necessary to be able to easily slide it into its bracket. When it came time to install the bolt that attached the large metal donut to this mount, I spent a huge amount of time trying to do this front the bottom or through a wheel well. Eventually, I realized that the best way was to stand on a small step stool and reach from the top. I'm tall, but I still needed the step stool. The last big time waster for me was the difficulty I had in reattaching the steering coupler to the rack. For the longest time, I simply could not slide it back on. Eventually, I realized that when I had originally hammered it off the shaft, I had peened the end of the coupling. To fix it required a few minutes with a rotary tool in order to remove the burrs. This would have been much much easier to inspect and repair before having put the rack/frame back in place.
@unorthodoxridez
@unorthodoxridez Ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment, I didn't loosen the trans mount bracket on the engine, I just tipped the subframe slightly.

Just checked my 2011 and there's no rust in that spot. I live in the South. It's a shame this is happening to some people because these model year Escapes are great snow cars - high clearance, large size tires, and 4WD on a lot of models. Does salt on the roads really help with snow? Because it completely destroys cars, so there ought to be a tradeoff, maybe its not worth it. I understand that protection like Fluid Film can help a lot with rust prevention, might be worth looking into since a new part was installed.
@unorthodoxridez
@unorthodoxridez Ай бұрын
We fluid film everything here, I'm a big advocate for proper snow tires. Problem seems to be the people who run bald summer tires year round so they have to salt the roads heavily for the unprepared.

You could even drain it cold and if you measure that volume out you just add that same cold amount back in. This is an easy way to do it as long as you don’t have a leak. You can even avoid removing the air box and filling it from up top. Instead you can simply use a little hand pump to fill it through the same hole where you check the fluid as it’s full when it drips out that hole with the engine running. An easy way to do it is to jack up the front driver wheel but before doing that use a measuring tape to measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of the door. Then take the wheel off and slowly lower the car to have it positioned at the same height you measured. Then you know the vehicle is level as it was with the wheel on. With the car running remove the side plug for checking the fluid and use your hand pump to add back your drained volume. If it’s not dripping from the hole add more until it is. If you have to add more than drained it’s because you were already low to begin with so possibly you have a leak or it was under filled before. Next time give the vehicle a good check over for leaks and if all is good then just drain it and add the cold volume that was drained the last time. You don’t need to add the extra you added last time unless you suspect a leak and check it again. A leak resulting in low fluid would show up with shifting problems in the transmission.
