@@marcusmaximus451 Hi, this was a Q number, which apparently is something Copart have bought with the intention to sell through auction. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing. It was a cracking little car. Pretty sure an old lady owned it for years before it came to me, I sold it to a young lad to take his driving test in and bought a salvage Peugeot 207 instead. That turned out to be hard work! Think I used up all my luck on the Clio. Videos of the Peugeot are on here if you're interested. Those Clios are criminally underrated.

No plans yet to do another car but there will be a few more follow up videos in the future. Maybe a leather interior swap and some new alloys. I had no expectations of it and didn't expect to get so fond of it. It was an absolute trooper, It's gone to a new home now, helping a young lad learn to drive. Glad to hear you're looking after yours. I've now got a little Peugeot 207cc, which is a never ending project! Videos also on KZbin if you're interested.

What does a cat u car turn into? If I buy a cat u car and repair it is it just a normal non categorised car? Or does it get given a category like ‘N’
@alistairmscott10 ай бұрын
It will always be at least a Cat U, and will probably show up as such on a detailed vehicle search, even though a basic history check might miss it. Some very thorough checks will show that the vehicle has been sold through salvage. Worst case scenario, it's sold as a Cat U while an insurance company is still sorting out the paperwork, then 6 months later you find it now shows as write off or stolen recovered. They are a huge gamble.
@NeonYt10 ай бұрын

If you're looking to make money then don't go near Copart. There's a reason it's in a salvage yard. If a trader thought he could make money out of a vehicle it wouldn't end up in Copart. You can't inspect them in person anymore, the fees add up very quickly, it's a massive massive gamble. I did this for a summer project/experiment, I wasn't too concerned about money, which is just as well!
@stephenclair4214 Жыл бұрын
Great videos, I'm learning lots from you and thinking of buying my first car in January to try and flip 👍
@alistairmscott Жыл бұрын
Pleased you're enjoying them! Stay away from Copart. If you're just looking to try out flipping for the first time you're better off looking through local Gumtree and Facebook marketplace. Even Autotrader might have some part exes that a garage wants to get rid of. With the Copart fees plus the fact that you can't physically look at a car it's just not worth the risk. Every man and his dog is trying to flip cars for a profit these days, so cheap cars with potential get taken very quickly. Pick the right one! If I was looking to make money out of this Peugeot I'd have been very disappointed, but this was just an experiment/hobby and I had the spare cash so it didn't matter. Don't get stuck with a lemon! Good luck...

Fair play to you 👏. I got a Copart Cat U recently at probably 30% of retail value. Some minor scratches and abit of dodgy paint on front quarter. Completely pot luck that the car has 8 main dealer service stamps and i took it to my mechanic for PDI and came back no issues. Drives like a charm so far city and motorway. I will keep it a while. But definitely wont be doing a cat u again. Not worth the stress and hoping/praying

Describing cars as 'unrecorded' is a bit of a misnomer. Years ago, unrecorded meant just that, not mentioned on any database. But it's different these days. It will still show up on 'enhanced hpi check' (motor trade version as used by car dealers and webuyanycar) as being sold through a salvage auction. That might not bother you per se, but you'll have to explain that to the next owner overhaul be in for a big surprise valuenwise.
@alistairmscott Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm aware some checks will show it as having gone through the salvage network. I'm ok with that, I don't think there will be another owner. I'll keep it until it dies. If I can get a couple of summers out of it without it costing me too much more I'll be happy. It was really just something to do to keep me busy. So far it's done 370 miles since the MOT, nothing has cropped up other than the vacuum pump oil leak mentioned in the video. It sits on the motorway happily at 60, no grumbles or nasty noises so hopefully, touch wood, it won't die on me just yet...

From the Health SDS I found for that product (Strypit), it contains Methylal, a weaker derivative of Methylene Chloride. Sure miss the stuff! Not for amatuers, though. It was killing a number of people a year here in the U.S. (who weren't using proper respirators with organic filters, and without proper ventilation in small spaces, like windowless bathrooms), until it was banned for public sale two years ago. Special permits for commercial operations now only. But it would peel through 15 layers of latex in 20 minutes, instead of 5 layers in several hours with the latest strippers. Sadly...
