I remember this. It was one of the first things I learned. My Sifu wore black sparring gloves 😂. My Sifu would tell me “your eyes will deceive you, don’t trust them, but the spirit never lies.”

Very nice. I have seen Bong Sao done mostly stationary with your center line still exposed. I've done some Wing Chun/JKD within the same Jujutsu school and therefore I like your letting it go through "flowing" method better than a hard stop. I agree, you need to take a learned technique and pressure test it or as I like to call it, "Take it to fail" meaning get to a point where you must adjust when things don't work out text book perfect.

I have seen many other videos showing how to defend/escape from the mount but very few show you how to do it while being punched. This was the #1 most accurate defense of all videos I've seen, especially having someone of a smaller size as the bottom opponent.

WOW!!! THANKS FOR THIS INTERESTING DEMONSTRATION! I REMEMBER A COUPLE OF THE BIGGEST, STRONGEST HAPKIDO STUDENTS... THEY WERE BUILT LIKE A BRICK SHITHOUSE,... AND, THEY TENDED TO RAPIDLY ESCALATE THEIR FORCE, WHILE "TRAINING"... TO THE POINT WHERE THE INSTRUCTOR ALMOST HAD TO BREAK UP A FIGHT.... BECAUSE THESE TWO GUYS WENT FULL "RED ZONE" (AS IT INSULTED THEIR EGOS),... WAY TOO REFLEXIVELY.... IT WAS INTERESTING TO OBSERVE, AND WORK WITH, SUCH "GORILLAS"...

Hi, I have your knife brace defense dvd, but I see you also have the knife stab and grab defense dvd. Can you tell me how are they different? Cause I thought the knife brace defense already addressed what to do if a knife assailant had a collar tie, underhook or some kind of gi grab on you.
@corejkdАй бұрын
The stab and grab specifically deals with someone attached to your clothing and using it as a direct means of taking you violently off base while pulling you in for a stab at random locations and intensity. It details with dealing with the fear generated and how people typically respond and why that's wrong. Thank you for the comment, sorry took so long to get back to you.

You are the Real Thing in JKD, for what its worth. Been JKD since 1989, MMA since 2001, and your stuff is great. Too bad you and Matt Thornton don't do a co-lab...or at least an interview of one another.

I wasn't consciously aware you were autistic, but it does add up and explain how much I resonate with your approaches to things as I too am neurodivergent. Some amount of subconscious awareness, mayhaps. This is a great list, thanks! Someday I hope to have the opportunity to train with you. Cheers

Had a boxer that came into our wing chun class for the first time to learn and he complimented on my short punches having power. Considering that the boxer is an expert at punching, i felt very validated that my efforts were not in vain 🙂

Thank you for the great video. Do you use more of boxing stance or classical Wing Chun stance?
@corejkd6 ай бұрын
Standard JKD bi jong (bent knee phasic) for most dynamic work where we have to rapidly change elevation or range due to shooting-in or weapon entry or evasion. Slightly modified version of Wing Chun for this work, in that we stay closer to shifting to the balls of the foot for more dynamic transfer of energy and movement. The "sitting" in the stance of Wing Chun is quite valuable when you need to be the mountain that doesn't move to specific attacks or to derive a foundation for one-three inch punch or variations.

In Silat, we have a similar strike coming from the elbow and the rib cage, powered by the hip (and _Gelek_), which is often called _Bandul_, a pendulum strike. However, we don't twist it towards the center because we're supposed to have already moved to the side to hit targets like the carotide artery for instance.

One of your best videos. More please! Can any of this be done with a wall by yourself?
@corejkd6 ай бұрын
Thank you. Some of it really requires a second person to apply just enough counter-pressure in opposing directions that can also dynamically update based on what they are feeling. A 2nd party perspective sometimes helps you uncover things you couldn't on your own. This mostly because not everyone is well-tuned to their physiology. While you can do some of these against a wall or other surface, there is a definite difference in release when someone trained can assist.

I love art does she have a channel that teaches If not make one, please… It would be cool if she made a comic strip about a JKD master who taught by day at his or her dojo and was a kick-ass hero at night with a mystical aspect to it…
@corejkd6 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. She has her up to date website and she is currently doing convention shows selling her artwork - some really cool work recently where people immediately bought large prints of it. She actually did do a “Ming Strip” comic featuring me and the Core JKD students. She has a comic field guide for her Balmwood work, which is really engaging. We’ve also been working on a story, but her schedule (and mine) have increased so much that we have to table a lot of that for later. Definitely follow her and check out her new work. She isn’t stopping :)

That’s how I was taught. Vertical fist, from the hip, relaxed until time of impact, hit “behind the body”, then bring your fist back quickly (don’t leave it out there). The only difference in the way I was taught was my center line wasn’t facing my opponent. Good vid.
