I went into my 2nd interview last week. I’m feeling confident that I got job because they were talking about the schedule I would have and the school I would go to in local94. Twelve Security Guard Realities 1. Security guards seldom get a salary raise. When they do, it's typically no more than 50 cents every 3 or 4 years. 2. Security guards must wait for a relieve before going home. If your relieve does not show up, you must do another 8 hours. Some companies allow security guards to work 24 hours straight, which is against the law in the United States. 3. Security guards must stand for long periods of time and patrol inner and outer perimeters regardless of weather. 4. Security guards are not respected by the guard company hiring them. 5. The job site determines the rate per hour for security guards. 6. Security guards cannot take their raise in salary at one site to another site if a transfer is requested or not requested. 7. Security guards are often required to join a bogus union that weekly deducts a set amount of money. The union does not protect security guards from termination or legal matters. In other words, the union is there to simply take money from the guards. 8. There are second-rate security guard companies that will require a weekly deduction for uniforms and shoes. 9. The client is always first and correct (even when they are not) over security guards. 10. Security guards are blamed for everything that happens at the job site. It doesn't matter what the situation is, security guards are blamed. The contract between the client and the guard company is more important than the security guards and FSD staff. 11. Security guard medical, vision and dental coverage is a joke in poor taste. Money is weekly deducted for benefits that pay for less than 50% of the total cost. Security guards end up paying most of the bills for medical, dental, and vision. 12. Security guards are a dime a dozen. The requirement to be a security guard does not go beyond a GED or high school diploma in terms of contract security. Guido Feliz

I’m in the process of racking up cof’s right now. I’m an flsd and I’ve been a guard like you too bro . Please help me out with some guidance. Every engineer from 94 I speak to says the same thing to me “ I have to know someone” in order to get in. That’s somewhat true. It’s because you will need experience usually to get in. Best bet is to do an apprenticeship so that you are already in the union. Otherwise, you have to work your way up through the hotels and small buildings first then you can qualify after 5 years or so for 94 commercial jobs

Talking from experience, the title security itself does not qualify you as per the FDNY. However, security guards if they are on the fire safety plan as fire brigade members or in some cases where they act as the evacuation supervisor after normal business hours, do qualify.
