Amazing!

This technical stuff is awesome, but it is WAY OVER MY HEAD. I tell my piece where to be soft, slow, cresc/decresc , fermata, gradually slow down, etc. , but my instructions are ignored. I need to change the size of spaces between staffs (I forgot the better term. I'm 78 and need 25 year old brains.) Overwhelmed!

I am new to Dorico, coming from Finale 26, I think. I have arranged a piece, but now, I can't HEAR the music, anymore, #1 problem at this time. I also can't "manage" my pages as I could with Finale, using the grabber or writing in words, instructions, etc. on my page.

Any chance Dorico 5 Pro will see an update that allows rhythm slashes in guitar notation to be expressed as a muted strum using an x- notehead with the slash? Am I (and several other people as far as I can see) missing something? Only proper noteheads can be expressed as a dead-note using the "X"? Some clarification would be appreciated on this. In GP8, one would simply click on the slash press "X" and you're done. This feature with a suitable short-cut would be enough for me to purchase it. Having the editable text-function menu is really nice. 👍Ty.

Very much appreciated. I took a dual path toward engraving many years ago from both typesetting and general music, so these calculations and adjustments are right up my alley. Esp. endorse the advice to let the software do the big picture (foundational) work before making manual adjustments.

So, there’s no way to simply drag the bar line and adjust each measure size, accordingly? I found that to be helpful in Noteflight, because it allowed me to for more bars on a page and create 1-page études for a book I was writing.

So we can navigate anywhere with Go To menu.... but does anyone know how to inputting notes at that jumped-to position without touching the mouse? Anything requiring the mouse is a productivity killer in power-tool software.

Just having an issue with editing composer title how I want it. I wanted to do a 'Words and music by' and then composer name underneath and I found the only way to do this without causing a page override was to enter it into the other information field, split them up and paste into composer part. The issue I am having is that the text is aligned to the right of the composer box, but within itself (the two lines I mentioned), I cannot center them relative to each other. This makes it look a little unprofessional for what I am looking for. Any ideas how to rectify this without the need to create a text box?

there's several things I miss from finale, in particular the ability to turn a note a rest, (I've noticed that it's better to follow the expectations of the designers than trying to do like in finale). Other strange stuff happens when you copy paste a triplet, the pasted version won't have the triplet. And the alteration bottom that lights whenever I select an altered note... it's pointless

Hi, I just watched a bit of interview with John at NAMM. I appreciate the effort going in on the Cubase notation part as I am a user but can I just say, I think improvements are needed on the Dorico interface itself to make it more user friendly. I would recommend making the midi editor more similar to Cubase where things like zooming in and out are the same controls with the mouse. Just make the interface the same for that even if you have to change the colors. The other big thing is why can't there be more flexible options to choose personalised key functions. For example, I hate that you need to press 'p' to play from the note you are on. Spacebar would be much more practical for this most common function. Anyway can you just give me an acknowledgement like to confirm you have read this Dorico so I don't need to keep on chasing up on these ideas! ps I am fully on board. Thank you.

Rebecca again: I have a finished copy that I did in Finale, but I thought I would put it into Dorico to maybe get better playback instrument sounds. I don't seem to be able to transfer my Finale arrangement into Dorico. What suggestions do you have about that?

I am trying to set up an ensemble for Soprano 1 & 2, Alto 1 & 2, Violin and Piano Accompaniment and I have NO IDEA what I am doing. I have started the parts into a score, but I don't like what I see. I think I will delete what I put on the page, but could you suggest where I can find instructions for my above-referenced parts.

Another vote here for a session on condensing. Working with a large score even on tabloid, and maximizing readability for large (in terms of number of players) would be exceedingly helpful!

Holding down command does NOT allow me to drag more than one handle at the same time- only one staff at a time. I know this is old, but.... where are the updated directions please? Thank you. I found repeatedly, and can't understand why, if 2 or more staves are simultaneously selected, and I drag them, the program gives me THE ILLUSION of dragging more than one, only to discover, upon releasing them, that ONLY ONE staff was moved, and often crammed on top of another staff, creating a giant mess. This should be fixed. If multiple staves are selected and moved- THEY SHOULD ALL MOVE. End stop. There should not be extra steps to find out how to do this, in my opinion. If so, it's too convoluted. All that said, please know that I am overwhelmingly finding this program to be very well designed the more familiar I get with it.

As a Finale user since 1987, I had no choice but to switch to another notation software. After using Dorico for a few months since last summer, I think Dorico is capable of many things, yet it is anything but intuitive. Sometimes, even for small tasks, you have to navigate to different places to complete them, making simple things complicated. I believe the fundamental difference between Dorico and Finale is that Dorico dictates rules for users to follow, whereas Finale provides more freedom for users to create their own rules.

Is Russian language present in the program?

I have been using Finale for decades and once my music is on paper I input using my Yamaha keyboard and the number/note-value pad. Does Dorico do that? It would be easier to learn to input right onto the PC. Do I need keyboard? I like using it.
