Thanks for the overview. Recently got the Z6iii and must say I’m a bit overwhelmed to the point I was thinking of selling it. But after practicing with it for a few days and watching this video I am feeling some hope. I still find the menus daunting but hopefully I can figure it out. 😅

Glad to help. As someone who's been around Nikon menus for more than a decade I can say that I don't use all available options. But the cameras are packed with incredibly useful controls and settings. Hang in there; you'll figure out what you need as you become familiar with what, right now, looks like an overwhelming array of options. The User Guide can be a great help too.

Hello Mr. Parker. I found your channel through research for using my Z9 for video work, some three years; yeah, I am late bloomer. I have been hooked by your channel ever since and slowly making my way through the episodes. Looking forward to many more of your takes on life, living on the island and photography. I love the west coast...

Hello Raymond, thanks for another great video. I was wondering... have you been able to rig your Z6 III with any external battery solutions? The NPF plates with USB-C PD by SmallRig that I use in combination with a dummy battery to power my Z6 II without any issues is instantly rejected by the Z6 III. The camera turns on, displays a message about "insufficient data from battery", then turns off. I also tried feeding power to the Z6 III via its single USB-C port from an Anker PD power bank that also works fine with the Z6 II, but the Z6 III doesn't even turn on with that. In any case that's not a viable solution for me, since I need that same USB-C camera port to connect my Nikon MC-N10 control grip. I'd be willing to upgrade from NPF plates to a V-mount type battery solution, but only if I can confirm compatibility. Neither B&H customer service nor Nikon's own support line could offer a solution to this. I never imagined that my "upgrade" to a Z6 III would decrease my ability to configure a cinema-type rig, so I may have to just return this camera while I still can. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. keep up the great work.

If you need the Z6III's single USB-C port for the MC-N10, I don't have a solution for you (the Z8 has that PD port as well as second for controllers, etc.). As demonstrated in this video, I run the Z6III with V-mount batteries to the USB-C port. Make sure USB power delivery is ON in SETUP MENU -- the camera will then show a tiny plug next to the battery icon.
@ivangabaldon9730
@ivangabaldon9730 6 күн бұрын
@@RaymondParkerPhoto Thank you Raymond for your prompt reply, I truly appreciate it. Power delivery is set to ON but no dice, camera won't turn on with the same power bank that works well with the Z6 II. This is such a disappointment, in my mind the Z6 III was to become my A camera and the Z6 II my B camera, but these unnecessary limitations really make the new model less usable for my type of work and unless I can find a solution, which I'm still searching for, I may have to send it back.... :-(

The camera is not the problem. It is not limited in this area. I also have no issues powering my Z6III with an Anker 20,000 MaH power bank.

You have described almost the exact backup process I've been using for the last 10 years. Carbon Copy Cloner is a dead simple way to clone hard drives. On older Macs (pre-M1) CCC will create bootable copies, which is a great way of preparing an internal drive upgrade (clone old boot to new drive, install new drive internally). With the M1, Apple has made bootable clones difficult if not impossible due to the security technology they embed with their internal SSDs (besides, Apple claims that SSDs "rarely" fail... we'll see). But even with these limitations CCC allows copying entire drives to folders or even remote.shared disks - great for backing up user data and apps. In addition to CCC, Time Machine is the definitive, if slower-paced, way of making incremental backups of your system drives and data. Both CCC and Time Machine backups can both be used to migrate users and applications to a new system via Migration Assistant. I've been investigating NAS solutions for much of this year - Synology, QNap, DIY hardware builds, and others, but they all have steep entry costs and are not always plug-and-play (some complex configuration management is involved), plus these are often difficult to expand without large additional costs, and recovering from drive failure can be more painful than expected. Alternatively, there's free NAS software like TrueNAS or OpenMediaVault which are powerful, but require an almost IT-pro understanding of storage planning, security and server management, and are really designed for department-level file sharing. Besides, as pointed out, NAS is NOT backup. You still have to plan and PAY for additional resources to backup anything stored on a hardware or software-based NAS, and manage the IT aspects of those plans as well. So in the end, individual drives, CCC, Time Machine and a rough idea of the "3-2-1" backup strategy is probably the best way for home users or individual creators to go.

All the best in 2025….I fell at the end of November and badly busted my femur. Long story short, I required an emergency hip replacement. I also broke a rib and a toe in the last few months. I am really missing outdoor photography this month, but have captured lovely family photos around Xmas. I am using photography mobility and cycling as motivation to get through rehabilitation as soon as reasonably possible. I hope to focus on fun, creative, outings once I recover…likely using Z cameras and adapted manual focus glass. My physical woes of late have hammered home how important photography is to my mental health and creative compulsions! Bring on 2025!

I dropped on your video because I'm looking for a simple non professional but secure solution too. I'm pleased to see that CCC gets good reviews by various people in the comment section adding to your opinion. This is definitely a good software and I ordered it. When it comes to hardware I'm still not sure about the solution that fits my needs as a hobby photographer and family COO. More research is needed but data wise I'm already on the safe side.
