It worked for me the first time but I am trying it for another character and it's not working. As soon as I paste the keys, the head just gets stuck right where it was. Any fixes?

For better control of the head with control rig I suggest trasfer keys from head to body head_ctrl instead of mha_head_ik_ctrl that way we can addjust head position later by UE rig Only problem that Rotation.Yaw will be mirrored, so I simplify keys and manually add (-) or (+) to the values

@@thomaspouyet1532 avec plaisir! Le process sera quand même différent. Ici on est sur de la performance capture, c’est long et lourd, et pas adapté aux contraintes du gaming. Il vaudra mieux utiliser de la Motion capture plus traditionnelle, genre capture iclone ou animation blender, et enregistrer les clips dans le blueprint du jeu.

Hello, pour être transparent, je ne l’ai pas testé encore sur UE54 et vu le nombre de Changements, je ne suis pas surpris que ça ne fonctionne pas avec cette méthode, je creuserai ça bientôt… en attendant, si tu es à l’aise sur 5.3, oui ça vaut le coup d’y rester encore un peu, car la méthode d’animation de 5.4 apporte vraiment beauuuucoup de changements

Hi, I've followed this EXACTLY on a fresh project with an iPhone 13 in UE5.3 on Windows 10 Home (High-end gaming PC). It WILL NOT import data. Output log says "Error: Corrupted Depth Data". Its a big issue for me. I've posted this under the same name with more detail on the UE forums. Any/all help is appreciated!

Hey, hard to know without spec infos. Are you on 5.2 ? .3 ? Usually uninstalling the plugin, opening and reinstalling may be a good thing to do 🤞

I have a problem of minor jitter on my metahuman animator. I notice a very small jitter intween head movement as if it needs more processing to smooth out the animation. I notice in sequencer there are some filters, but do not know which to apply and to which part, and would it make any difference? If you have any info on how to smooth out an animation in sequencer please let me know.

Quick tip if someone got stuck on bake to control rig, Just uncheck filter asset by skeleton and it will show up.

Hi, no it doesn’t. MHA is another way to animate, like capturing an actor performance and playing it again later, but not for live production. But it means that the performance precision is way higher, too

nice tutorial, what iphone do you recommend for metahuman animator with a sufficient truedepth camera to capture most of facial features / animations ? is iphone X enough or 13 with it's new camera seem mandatory ? I really wish i didn't have to break the bank on buying an expensive iphone just to animate quests characters so close to christmas :/

i cant thank you enough for this great tutorial. But I faced one small problem, after correcting the offset of the head to the body (14min) it jumps straight back to the wrong offset after the animation is over.

Hi! Do you have any idea why the mesh's mouse is always close? I can see my teeth and those green points on the promoted frame that show my mouse is open, but the mesh's mouse is closed. I'm very sure that I have hit the fit teeth button...

Hi looks like a display issue, if your teeth are correctly interpreted, but only reference image is showing wrong frame, maybe a close/ reopen project could help, did you try ? There are some display issues throughout the process, but sometimes it doesn’t affect the interpretation. I would give a try

I have a problem of crashing when I click on process in Metahuman Performance . I click process (all videos and identity are done correctly), Unreal just crashes, do you know why? I had been searching online, but unfortunately there isn't any useful solutions so far. Some people suggested changing file names to English, and I have all files named in English. And some say it is the CPU version, but I have the latest i9, so I am really confused about this. Please let me know if you know anything about this issue. Thank you !

Hey! Sorry for you, there might be various reasons. The naming issue is a good idea though idea that’s been discussed here : English name, the shortest possible, and avoiding special characters. I’ve heard about takes not working that had to be wiped then imported back, maybe try this method too ! Good luck 💪💪

Bonjour et merci ! En fait ce sont 2 méthodes totalement différentes d’animation des metahumans : livelink est fait pour le temps réel, la ou animator est plutôt fait pour la capture de séquences et la reinterprétation (comme une animation fbx mais pour le visage et ses nombreux détails ). Je n’ai pas suivi les dernières évolutions d’Unreal sur Mac, mais de mémoire livelink ne marchait pas dessus (alors qu’il utilise principalement des iPhone …) ou de manière aléatoire. Peut être avec UE 5.2 ou 3 en natif sur mac ? À tester, désolé de ne pas pouvoir aider plus

Hey 2 things to check imho : make another export of the head ensuring that the export head movement is correctly checked. Second option : close editor. Close the projec Rand reopen it, open the animation editor once more, it may resolve issues ! (Looks dumb but it saved me a couple of times from getting crazy )

even with this metod it doesn't work for me. after i modify the blueprint with the blendmask i simple lose my face animation, not the head, but the all the face animations are gone... and actually it doesn't attach the head at the body but just make it really close.. 1 week that i try to find the right workflow but seems impossible. btw i'm using unreal 5.3 i don't if is a bug or what..

Hey Eros, I’m trying to reproduce your error, but I do have the MH controlrig at all times. Did you check your body was correctly selected at the base level to assign the baking ? Other possibility, trying to swap with a different metahuman, delete the current and re-download it. Corrupted MH file info may be an option … good luck 🤞

After following the tutorial to a tee, (several times) my head is still detached from the body. It is standing completely still in the air while the body is moving as it should. Any suggestions?

I'm so sorry for you :( Did you have your keyframes all baked? That was my most common unlucky move on the first days. Also try saving/rebooting Unreal in the middle of baking process, it saved me a couple of times . Cross my fingers for you !

@@super3studio Yes all the keyframes are baked, also in the right position, the keyframes of the different headtracks are copy pasted, and deleted as prescribed. the weights (1 and 0) should be set correctly as well. I have followed your tutorial about 8 times, but each time with the same outcome. Well. Back at it I guess ;)

Nope. Didnt work for me. Weird thing is it DID work like a couple of weeks ago, and ive done it again step by step and now its not working lol I got the animation not from mixamo but from iclone 8 live link, and used take recorder to record the motion, and the face motion is metahuman animatior, but it just wont work. The head and body wont attach

Man, you play with dark forces ;) Honestly I didn’t go so far using iclone live link AND MHA… I read you twice and wonder if there won’t be any blueprint disabling trick for the body once your move is baked. I just received my Rokoko and will have a try in the next days. Interested to follow up with you

I also have a rokoko suit, but the motion I transferred across was just one of the box standard pre made motions that came with iclone 8, then I just used the live link add on which works amazingly well. The most frustrating part is last week I literally just removed the metahuman control rigs and added the body and face animation and it works immediately, now it won’t but from what I’ve seen I’m not doing anything different! I’ve realised with ue5 you really have to focus on what steps you do things in, it’s odd!!

But I think it's more an animator thing when you come from generalist work and begin to dive deeper in animation, my experience in Blender is quite similar after coming from mograph/procedural jobs in C4D. Workflow steps have to be cautiously followed to avoid breaking all apart - Kind of Jenga !

the detailed explanation really helps... I use iclone to bring mixamo to unreal, make a few tweaks for foot sliding, but this helped me understand more about the unreal process... thanks

Thanks a lot. Some parts of the process may seem basic for pro born animators, but for some learners as I am, baking, retargeting, smoothing and so on are each time spare universes ! Iclone is definitely a great tool to ease the burden of it all
