1:35 I have a good enough understanding of fmc to explain what was going on. So basically, nowadays the fmc meta is reaching a dr (domino reduction, a state that can be solved by R2 L2 F2 B2 U and D moves only) and then solving it from there. The human way of doing it is to relay as least as possible on luck. So, finding and checking as many eos (edge orientation, one of the steps necessary to get to dr), and then finding as many drs, and using the few that are most likely to get you to a solved cube in as few moves as possible (I don't understand that part as much, but there is some metric that makes you know roughly how good the dr case will be). So in short, the human way is to do the best over the parts you can easily control. The way computers solve, is to try and find the best combination of getting to dr and solving the dr. This means that a lot of the times, they will choose a longer dr, or one that looks bad to a human, because they can check it pretty easily and see if there is a good continuation. Or in short, computers are able to control the whole solve, so they use whatever is shorter, no matter if what makes it short is at the starting steps or at the end of them. The way Kalindu solved was a lot like the computer. He wrote a lot of eos, but didn't check most of them. In most cases he solved dr in a lot more moves than someone in this level will. His dr to finish was inhumanly short. All of that, combined with what you mentioned in the video was already pretty good proof that he cheated. Also from what I understood, after people checked, they found out he posted those scrambles on discord prior to the competition so people will help him get a good solution. And also someone who has a web or a program for finding solutions for scrambles checked and found out those scrambles were entered prior to the competition, and the solution didn't match (disclaimer, I haven't checked if the things in this paragraph really happened, they might just be rumours...)

I think the community needs trust in every way. We competitors trust delegates to make the best decisions. I don't think it would be benefitial to anyone if delegates couldn't compete unless there is another delegate attending and co-running the comp.

For me the two barrels of the smoking gun are the fact he genned the scrambles sooo far in advance (paper trail, indisputable) and also that the scrambles appear in that Mallard program in advance too (also paper trail, indisputable). Then when presented with these facts he still denied it, which really goes against his character. Reading the report I have a new found respect for the disciplinary committee!

yeah it's especially easy to cheat for shorter events, especially 3x3, 2x2, pyraminx, and skewb. It's relatively easy to get reasonably knowledgable and it's hard to tell if one cheated as there isn't always as clear cut evidence, as compared to FMC, since in FMC, competitors usually write down their solutions and have some sort of work as proof to what they did.

top fmc solves can roughly be split into dr (top solvers usually use 11 or less moves) and finish (the rest that takes around 9 to 13 moves), kalindu often used 13 move drs but found really short finishes, which requires extreme luck as there are a lot of possible 13 move drs on every scramble, and these solutions matched the output of cube explorer after eo (first 5 or less moves)

What you described was not exactly what happened. It was proven that he used third-party online software to generate solutions a few days prior competition for his 24 and 22 nr singles, and (not proven but most likely what happened) for his 20.33 and 19.67 he used offline software to generate solutions before competition, not during the attempt

One thing about the solutions where people were super confused was that the first parts of his solutions were extremely unusually long for a top FMC solver and the second parts were extremely short. While you could assume he wasn’t incredibly experienced and just went for longer solutions to the first part of the solve and happened to get lucky at the end, the chances of it happening not only in his wr but in both his means from that comp in the way it did are so low that it’s practically impossible.
@NobleCubes2 күн бұрын
Very interesting. Glad people looked into the solutions so thoroughly

I just read the report. He generated the scrambles for his fake WR 43 days before the comp, so he already knew the solutions (generated by a software tool) that he would write down. He did that also for 2 other comps and he lied to the WDC by telling them that he always generated the scrambles the day before.

Wow this is so much more deceptive then I thought!
