for anyone that wants to do the fire, I would do it like this : the grass shader has a bool "isBurned" and has 2 textures, one for the burnt grass and the normal grass, then detect the ball in a range like you would do for a player that stomps the grass (watch tutorials on interactive grass for this), then if it detects the ball you turn the bool to true and there you go :)

i play a simple coding game called castle. when you plotted what you wanted Y to be like, my mind IMMEDIATELY thought of a function called smooth in castle. its the same as easing, but you can control its "bounce" by modifying some values

Fadcinated till the end, I am still unable to imagine making a system approaching your results but, you injected a real interest back to master some linear algebra and derivatives in me, as they really could help me making some cool prototypes, so ... let's farm some practice !
