I got a quote for installing level 2 charger including the 7kw charger for 1280 bucks... which is not bad, the wallbox is next to the garage hence the cheap price. However I decided to just buy a cheap 10amp wall charger (capable upto 32amps). And it was enough. I only charge at night between 12 - 6am for 8cents per Kw. At 10amps I can get about 11% each night for my BYD Seal. It was enough for my daily drives for about 2 months until the battery drops to around 15%, then I just take the car to a local under cover parking and let it charge to full and calibrate its battery. Its 3 dollars flat weekend parking and charging @ 7kw is free. In the Summer I can also get 4 hours of solar charging, and my battery has never gone below 35%. There is alway enough sunny days in summer to not run out of battery. If i get a second EV, i'll just install an 32amp wall socket.

Sorry man, questions here which should be more relevant. I just realized that the Sealion6 does not have paper owner manual, or just they forgot to give it to me? Also, I heard BYD suggested first few thousand miles on HEV mode? But again, my range is about 5-10km per day so I do EV mostly, would this matter ? Thanks in advance,
@zhipengxie67912 күн бұрын
I also read this, any thoughts?(very long ) Here are a few real scenarios I often have: 1. 100 km, round, highway trip: The outbound trip is uphill so I drive in HEV and set SOC to 50-70% and SAVE to make sure I have enough power for accelerating and passing on the way. The engine keeps the charge at this % when needed. For the return trip I keep the car in HEV but I set the mode to AUTO to make the most use of the remaining battery and charge back home. 2. Short 5-10 km rides in the city with traffic: I use either full EV mode and charge once of twice per week OR HEV with SOC at 70% and SAVE. 3. Long 40-80 km rides in the city, higher speed streets with few traffic: HEV, SOC 50% and SAVE. I charge at least once per week / 2 per gas tank. If the trip is more than like 500km You can force EV on your initial urban part of the trip to make the most effective use of the battery. Or set it as HEV with SAVE mode; the car will use EV only from 100%-70% any way. I would use HEV / SAVE / 50-70% (depending on how many urban kms you take and how the trip at your destination will be). Then just drive on highway with hybrid and manually switch to EV when in slow traffic or when at your destination. If you will be able to charge at your destination then you can force EV or switch mode to AUTO when close to arriving :) I rarely use AUTO mode, just EV/HEV(SAVE) and adjust SOC% as needed through my trips for efficiency. I have around 5k kms so far with. 3.0 L/100 km and charge 1-2 times per week
@AllTerrainActionEV7 сағат бұрын
It’s good advice, just focus on slow speeds under 70km/hr run in ev and for highway above 90/kmh use HEV. For me I set to 50% SOC SAVE and only use the remaining battery whenever on LAST LEG to charger (eg home or work). If I know I can do the whole day on single charge I just use EV. If I know I’m going to do 150kms on a day HEV till 50% and then switch to EV last 35 km on the last drive home as above.

Bottom line is, if my destination is 700km away from the plugging station. Would I get the same level performance through out the trip ?
@AllTerrainActionEV13 күн бұрын
Hard to know with the Shark but the BYD ecosystem is very similar across Shark and Sealion and if we base it on that the Sealion begins to drop off max power around 25-30% battery. Significantly drops off at less than 20%. I have found if you need to do long trips setting SOC to 60% then driving your trip in HEV mode you’ll always have the power available. That been said, if you did a long hill climb I would suspect the onboard generator couldn’t keep up, but without testing this I cannot be sure. Still that been said you’d have to be climbing for 30mins non stop before that would become an issue I would say, just won’t happen.

Ohhhh… I’m a bit confused. I thought the big hype around this Ute was its ability to cover over 700 km on a single charge plus a full tank of petrol. But I’m not sure how useful that would be if its performance is significantly compromised when going a few hundred km off roading

@AllTerrainActionEV16 күн бұрын
HEV anytime > 80km/h, EV anything less than 80km/h. Unless I know I have the range to make it to the destination I will just use EV regardless of speed. If I know for sure I have to do say 250km, and know I wont charge anywhere on that trip, I'll set SOC to 50% then drive in HEV, until I know only 30km left of my trip to get back home and then switch back to EV to maximise the EV range of the trip. 50% is my decision for that type of driving if HEV and long trip so battery stays within optimal range to minimise degredation - 60% would be better but ive decided 50 for me. That been said.. if my day is total 70km distance EV the whole way, and EV MAX mode if I need like to go downto 18% for example just to make it home to avoid turning over the ICE engine for such a short remaining distance home.
@zhipengxie67915 күн бұрын
Thanks mate, most of our Monday -Friday driving are less than 10KM per day. Would go outside to charge like once every two days, so it should be EV mode while on the weekend we go from SouthEast to City, then probably switch to HEV on M3/M1 then EV again after existing HWY
@AllTerrainActionEV15 күн бұрын
@@zhipengxie679 I'm currently gathering footage for a video that will break down how ICE vehicles, particularly automatics, experience efficiency losses due to torque converter slippage. This comparison will make everyone understand why EVs excel at lower, non-highway speeds, thanks to advantages like regenerative braking but also removing that loss of energy from ICE power convertion to wheels which will also cover why ICE vehicles perform less efficiently at slower speeds. BYD’s DMI and DMO systems bring the best of both worlds by leveraging the strengths of both engine technologies. This dual-mode innovation from BYD is setting a new benchmark in efficiency, likely making it one of the top systems available in today’s market (in my opinion). Just remember when you're on the way home and know you will be able to charge again, even if on highway you go to EV for the remaining % of battery to 25% this will maximise savings.

The thing I’m behind is with Ironmans upgrades / off road mods BYD claim to continue to support warranty claims within those modifications by Ironman, in the 4wd/camp/touring space that’s a huge bonus. You won’t see other big manufacturers brands doing that, I’ve had first hand experience with Toyota on this front and even their own pre reg addons that failed was not covered in a new 4wd / challenging times but it’s time for a change in the space… this is where it begins. @AllTerrainActionEV16 күн бұрын
The only situation I can compare this to is when I drive to the Victoria border and back, covering a total distance of 690 km round trip with two charging stops. However, my approach is different. Whenever I plan to drive more than around 100 km, I set the mode to HEV and the State of Charge (SOC) to 50%, then drive. When I’m about 30-40 km from the end of the trip, I switch to EV mode to use up the remaining battery and maximise electric driving for that trip. The reasoning behind this is that keeping the battery around 50% ensures optimal battery health during the trip, with about 25% reserve for fluctuations in power demand. I've never set the SOC to 25% for long-distance drives because, in my opinion, if you know the road ahead, it's best to maintain the battery between 50-70%, as this range is optimal for minimising battery degradation - at least that's my understanding. Using this method, I've never seen my battery drop below 48%. When I set the HEV SOC to 50%, the charge stays between 48-51%. I guess if you set to 25% SOC you might see it dip to 22-23%. I have noticed in EV MAX mode, if i drop to under 15% power capacity (in terms of torque) is greatly limited. I also have seen the voltage curve on the blade battery.. drops off around 60% slightly, and then slowly drops off from 25% to around 10% where it takes a huge drop. So that data says.. stay around 60-70% in theory, I use 50% for own personal choice.

First one here, been looking forward to it. Just wanted to know what you think if waiting for 2025 version with dmi 5 us worth the wait? And any news on that?
@AllTerrainActionEV21 күн бұрын
I don't have any hard facts to share about the the next dmi version, but from what I've heard, improvements are on the way. The specifics will depend on what BYD decides to release, but it’s worth noting that this current DMI platform isn't entirely new. I only took the plunge because it's been used overseas for several years, so it's technically a proven system - anything thats been used that is sold at the end of its generation before the next genrally is at its peak reliability - that been said there was a recent engine shudder issue that developed in some owners experience which has been now reolsved over an OTA update so it was software based and has been resolved. The next iteration will likely bring enhancements, but like with anything, there will be pros and cons. It really comes down to timing - whether you should buy now or wait. This is an excellent car for the price point. Next year, prices could go up, and even with improvements, you'll need to decide if waiting was worth it. Go take one for a test drive and see what works for you. I'll also be covering the build quality, materials, the highs and lows in an upcoming video, so stay tuned if that's helpful for your decision!

@@AllTerrainActionEV definitely depends on how long you can wait, BYD is keeping the info about DMi-05 release in AU. one dealer in NSW did tell me that he was informed it could be 2027 to get the new version in AU

I still don't trust the auto-steer, it still can't take corners. auto-steer will disconnect without notice when it doesn't see the road marking or the concrete and white isn't enough contrast. The centre lane keeping is also unreliable as it has yanked me to on coming traffic and not keeping centre lane. The rear axel suspension needs stronger shock absorbers, every time i go over a speed bump a bit too fast i feel my ass. The tyres are terrible, in my front wheel drive i got wheel spin on a slightly damp road. RADAR cruise control brakes too late and accelerates too slowly.

@@tld8102 140kw out the front wheels single direct, yeah got definitely would get wheel spin, I’m sure there are better tyres but they aren’t as ‘bad’ as everyone make them out to be. Haven’t had an issue with auto steer yet, but yes rear shocks could have better dampeners and yes I agree radar cruise software needs some work.

just had a test drive with Sue at Dandenong. liked the car but i think itll take a bit of time to get used to the very light steering. Do you find it light? Obviously you got used to it, if thats the case
@AllTerrainActionEV21 күн бұрын
It does have 2 steering modes, although even on the non comfort setting I find it still light. Yes I have gotten used to it!

Thanks for the video. I was thinking that I'd get somewhere (Probably Pedders) to replace the shocks/springs for a better ride but your comment about warranty has made me think twice. If you change the suspension, does it only affect warranty with the suspension or are there further impacts? (I know that BYD has announced improved suspension for future models but I assume there will still be comfort/performance trade off). If I was to get custom suspension, would you have any suggestions?

I enquired with my pedders contact - they are actually working on something it seems, so that’ll be interesting once available!
