Love your videos. Got my sealion 6 last week. Thanks for teaching us about all the quirks. The Speedo thing on cruise control is annoying. I ended up getting a 15amp socket installed in the garage and got a 15amp charger from AliExpress. Works a treat. Charges about 3.2kwh. cheap option, about $500 installed all up with the new charger.
@AllTerrainActionEV3 ай бұрын
That is a great middle ground! So around 3-4 hours charge time then and manageable. Not to freak you out and I have no experience here, but be sure to monitor the Aliexpress obtained charger for the first few weeks when on charge. eg. charge during the day when your around, monitor temp of the charger itself and cable leads - nothing should get hot, warm is ok. If it does, needs investigation - I have heard in the space some non certified charges lurking from places such as Aliexpress and have started burnouts on sockets and in some rare cases fire/smoke. My point mainly is charge and and monitor first before leaving unattended charge for the first few charges just to be sure all is good. Trying not to worry you, just caution you for care.

Thanks for the information. I am new owner of SL6 Premium and I not tech person. I have some questions.. Q1…how much power consumption if i plugged in to 10amp wall socket from 25% to 100% Daytime with solar And night time on grid ------ Q2… Also how much cost to install the wall charger in South Australia how much power consumption if i plugged the wall charger from 25% to 100% ---- Q3… why most of the car safety features only activate in the cruise mode. --- Thanks in advance

1 around 14kWh 2 depends on distance from switchboard to charger location, within meters around $400 if no walls, if walls still within meters $400-700 and just add around $100 a meter after that. Eg 10 meters from switchboard through the roof will be around $1200-1500 installed. 3 all saftey features are always on, your probably thinking ICC I assume?

I got a quote for installing level 2 charger including the 7kw charger for 1280 bucks... which is not bad, the wallbox is next to the garage hence the cheap price. However I decided to just buy a cheap 10amp wall charger (capable upto 32amps). And it was enough. I only charge at night between 12 - 6am for 8cents per Kw. At 10amps I can get about 11% each night for my BYD Seal. It was enough for my daily drives for about 2 months until the battery drops to around 15%, then I just take the car to a local under cover parking and let it charge to full and calibrate its battery. Its 3 dollars flat weekend parking and charging @ 7kw is free. In the Summer I can also get 4 hours of solar charging, and my battery has never gone below 35%. There is alway enough sunny days in summer to not run out of battery. If i get a second EV, i'll just install an 32amp wall socket.

Hi, When I am driving my BYD sealion 6 on highways with HEV mode on 100% battery it's consuming battery power after 25% its started to used fuel. Is there any setting I need to change so that I can purely drive on HEV petrol, so that I can use 100% battery in the city driving. Thanks Kiran
@chrisbakeruploads3 күн бұрын
The car is not designed to use less than 25% battery. You can use the toggle switch and hold it down to EV side for 5 seconds and it will change the EV symbol from green to blue which will enter EV MAX mode, which will allow down to 15% battery but it shouldnt be used regulary for battery life longivity. I have another video to explain the technical reason as to why on my channel, look for the thumbnail with the whiteboard :)

Anyone know why a Tesla UMC charger does not charge the BYD Sealion? Any tips would be great.

@@kksyd I heard about this but did not research more into it, something about physical hardware all fine but Tesla software refuse to charge byd. Love your videos. I have a question, as a new SL6 owner, we are going away on holiday for 3 weeks . What would be the safest way to leave the car - in relation to SOC etc. Mainly from a safety point of view. The car will be locked undercover in a garage. Look forward to your response.
@AllTerrainActionEVАй бұрын
Anywhere between 50-70% would be fine, not higher though. In saying that 3 weeks wouldn’t really matter at 100% it would be more for 3 month or so, however if possible it’s always better to leave it around the range above for the battery’s life.

Nice one! I installed a 32amp wall socket over the weekend and purchased an 7kw 32amp EV Charger with amp ranges from 10,15,20,24,32. It’s a game changer really. Do you know if I kept it plugged in overnight and say the charge was completed by 7am yet I unplug it around 11am. Would the car automatically stop taking charge? Is that safe?
@AllTerrainActionEV3 ай бұрын
@@Motivationjungl3 yes of course it’s all controlled on both side vehicle side and charger side. Both need to agree the want to charge before a charge takes place, once full it will unlock the charger too. Something to be aware of I became known to recently is BYD does go to sleep after awhile and not accept charge until woken up. Not an issue for most people but I don’t think happens on other EVs I am working on that issue atm.

how much did the solar cost to install in total? looking into getting solar to charge my SL6 as i think it would be really cool to essentially drive for free, obviously will be a high base cost but overtime u would break even?
@AllTerrainActionEVАй бұрын
My sitution is going to be differant to yours. I got my EVSwitch with my BYD as a free inclusion, they have a promo still that offers this I belive in Australia. So my cost was $750 for installation for a new 32A run from my switchboard over 10 meters, assuming power costs me $0.30c per kWh (so not including any solar charging) I would need to cover approx 16,000km before my ROI is met. But say you also had to buy the EVSwitch chargerfor $500 that would change to 26,000km before ROI is met. If i didnt get the EVSwitch with my car for free I would have choosen a better Wall Charger that has some API integration to automate some of my charging - but I went with what I had to lower costs as that was objective. There are other factors here also to consider as no driving is free, tyres, operating cost for distance vs. service requirements and wear and tear on vehicle life which arent equated here. One thing I can say for sure, I didnt buy this for a 'cheap' way of driving, that was a bonus. I just wanted to step foot in electric vehicles and have the ability to get solar charging use when able, and get good fuel/energy economy when it can work for me. EV's in slow traffic are way superior then ICE cars, you just have to have it before hating it. (for anyone reading this reply/comment thinking about what I've said here)

What does side-loading apps do to your car's warranty? does it matter in the end given it's only a 3 year infortainment warranty?

I couldn’t say, I can’t see why it would it’s only software and I could simply just remove the apps and it’s as it was before.

Is there any acceleration lag In the vehicle while Driving?
@AllTerrainActionEV3 ай бұрын
Not particularly if anything it’s more responsive than fly by wire ICE cars imo. Torque is there and now when you want it. Launch control has a bit of lag but otherwise normal driving it’s quite good. It feels more refined in only EV mode than HEV but for what it is - bang for buck for sure.

@@l33tr4n55 that’s a great average for cost for ev charging. I forgot I should have mentioned there are also retailers who will have ev free charging periods but these are mostly only good for 12->22kW charging mainly to utilise the very small window they generally offer for charging - still it’s a saving.
