I cook all veggies in corn bread so I don't have saultaying. The kitchen smells wonderful.

That's a great idea. I have done that and it works well. I do it the other way since I can save my cornbread leftovers. I appreciate your comment.

I love sweet potatoes! Those look delicious John. I think I'll bake mine and cube them up smaller so that delicious sauce glazes over all of them better.

Mistake no. 4: not learning to make mashed potato from an asian person. Chinese cuisines use waxy potatoes so nonsense that you can’t make good mash with waxy potatoes.

No. We never put sugar in our cornbread.

I agree no sugar in the cornbread. My Mom and Grandmothers always made a savory cornbread anything else just doesn't taste right to me. I love seeing how other people make their cornbread.

Anything to note for cooking at high altitude? In Colorado, thanks 🤠 also, I am not hearing how much corn meal you’re using. I heard 1/2 cup self rising flour but not corn meal 🤔 thanks!
@AllThingsFoodwithJohnWoodsАй бұрын
Sorry that I can't help you with high altitude adjustments. We are 400 MSL here, so I don't have to worry about those issues. Great question, and I hope someone comes up with the answer. I will go to the site and post the complete recipe for you. It will be later today. Thank you for watching and asking the great question. Let me know that you get the recipe and how the cornbread turns out. Follow the instructions to the T and you will have fabulous Southern style cornbread.
@Evergreen11_11Ай бұрын
@ thanks so much! I will let you know! I’ll just do some research to see if it matters. I’ve noticed issues when cakes and breads are altitude so I adjust sugar and moisture but maybe for this it won’t matter. I’m sure it will turn out great. Have a wonderful day and I’ll keep an eye out for the video! 🙏🏻 🌽 🍞😍

@ You are quite welcome. It’s first on my list when I return to the studio this afternoon. Make enough to make some of my Southern Cornbread dressing. That new video will be coming out this coming week.
@AllThingsFoodwithJohnWoodsАй бұрын
Evergreen, here are the ingredient quantities as promised. I would suggest carefully watching the video again and writing down each step. Let me know how it turns out. 2 cups of Martha White Hot Rize Cornmeal is my preference. Whatever, use self-rising. 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour. King Arthur is my preference. The wet ingredients are: 3 eggs, beaten, 1 1/2 cups buttermilk (no substitute), 1/3 cup of hot vegetable oil. 3 tablespoons of Duke's mayonnaise or your favorite mayonnaise. The oil part is critical to the overall outcome of our cornbread.

When you say chefs or cooks, they were also slaves and thats not how the story went. I was taught by my great grandmother who was born in 1893 and learned from her grandmother. Nothing worse than colonizer descendents taking credit for things their ancestors did NOT create. Give credit where credit is due.
