This guy has several things wrong . At 7:00 it shows the old hwy 49 bridge over the YUBA river NOT the bear river . I hauled many loads of logs across it '72-'75 . It's still there as was ped. bridge . The newer one is next to it a little downstream (west) . So any bear river reference he makes is the YUBA .

The north star mine is not north of the empire , it's west and slightly south below nevada county fairgrounds . I spent two summers in nevada city & grass valley in'64 and '67 moved to and lived in both from '72 to ' 75 , been all over the area from auburn to downieville and loyalton logging , been down in the 16 to 1 mine ('73) , helped work the willow valley mine claim ('73&'74) .

Correct: The North Star mine complex included the powerhouse. The directions to find the powerhouse is the next stop north after the exit to the Empire Mine. The North Star mine was sold to the Empire Mine. Julia Morgan designed the “cottage” for the North Star mine. She used rocks from the mine in her design. The Julia Morgan house is now open to the public and is located south of the powerhouse. My goal was to give directions that are easily followed. Thank you for your note.

One last request… If I missed an important point, please let me know and I’ll add your name to the video’s notes. James Robinson was a common name. There was a JR contemporary in Hawaii. What was unique in my search was his height. When you check Jail records, look for a person of his height. There is a book showing a list of early convicts in San Quintin. JR is listed just at the appropriate time. But… there is no historical document showing his actual presence. The author used secondary sources? Nor is there any record of him being arrested in local counties and being transferred to San Quentin Prison. Escape from San Quintin occurred on a regular basis. The business plan of the sheriff was to use prisoners as laborers; make a little $ on the side as well as work in the granite quarry building the prison. Of course, record keeping was a little sloppy. I’m sure sheriff Hayes did not want it known his prisoners were escaping.

My uncle was the last resident farmer of liberty island he lived in the north east corner of the island. I spent many seasons on the island working, hunting and fishing until 1991 . What a waste of tax payer’s money for the new bridge to no where if liberty didn’t flood then Sacramento would it was sacrificed as a spillover to save Sacramento new residences that should not have been built in the flood plane or the deep water ship channel not used for flood control 7000 acres of some of the most fertile land in California

Thank you for your insight. The port of Sacramento has two main customers: rice and cement. As sea waters rise more islands will fail. Islands have been purchased for their water rights; shipping the water south? The massive pumps in Tracy are detrimental to our salmon run. Next up is the tunnel. It will also disturb the Delta. The state is trying to restore thousands of acres as mitigation for the tunnel project. Just next door to Isleton a new city of a hundred thousand plus is on the drawing board. If built, both highway 12 and Interstate 80 will take a hit. The developers never mention how the new residents will exit their City of the Future. Progress is not always progress.

However, the added info sent me back to unearthing the fact that there was a second man who went by the name “Yankee Jim”. A number of projects will hopefully increase salmon spawning on our streams. First, not all spawning salmon return to their natal streams. So...If we improve other watersheds, some might visit us. A few changes: Salmon spawning up the Sacramento River might make a wrong turn and enter the Yolo bypass. This can lead to a dead end. The Fremont weir is being re worked so spawning salmon will re enter the Sac River. In Lincoln, the Auburn Ravine, just east of the city, had an old agricultural (Hemphill) dam. The dam has been removed allowing six more miles of spawning stream bed. There have been experiments allowing salmon fingerlings to fatten up in rice paddies along the Sacramento River. You can see updates by following either or both Facebook pages: Dry Creek Conservancy or the Friends of Auburn Ravine. Thanks for viewing my video. Take a look at “Auburn Ravine a Drones View”. M
