Awesome. Great test. I do finish carpentry and millwork installation and I consider these jacks a must have now. I have the Irwin ones.

I also have the Irwin ones. I use them to install railings and gates, really great for leveling! I think the irwin and dewalt have similar build

I would suggest that you test the lowering with a load. I just used a set of cheap jacks today to lift a heavy dresser to put sliders under it so I could get to the wall behind it. When I tried lowering the dresser it did not move incrementally but instead slammed totally to the bottom with lamps and small items flying all over. Luckily I was not under part of it. These cheap ones are alright for lifting a door or wall board into place but dangerous when lowering a weight.

Did the version you used have an incremental lowering feature? The Dewalt has a "rapid" lowering lever like you describe, but I'm using the incremental lowering lever in this video which only allows lowering a small amount. As for testing under load, here's an updated video with just such a test: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2HOaKBujM9jmbMsi=ypUoqA5NE8kClJnx

@ I went back and checked to make sure I didn’t miss anything. My cheap jacks only have the single release lever. With the heavy dresser once it was slightly loosened the weight brought it all the way down. It’s possible that I had used 2 jacks I could have released one so the other would have held it but I don’t know if one would go down slightly then have the other go down slightly. DeWalt is on Amazon for $120 and the cheap jacks start at $33 for a pair but I don’t know if they have incremental lowering.

Thanks for pointing this out - very interesting. It would be even more interesting to see how it performed under load, but that's probably too much work. Thanks again!

I think for a proper test, you should load the jack with 50lbs and see if that makes a difference. I install very heavy doors with these, and I find they move in 1/16 increments at those weights.

It looks way better on the Diablo for sure, like they designed that way. I can see how its a more refined design. I have always found Milwaukee with in spec of most general hole sawing. They aren't challenging any forstner bits or annular cutters for clean hole cutting, but they are tough. It's a good observation you made. The paint wear seems more even on the diablos too. I have all Milwaukee hole saws some real old and some new, but as an electrician I don't often see the effects of the lack of precision. When I have done wood working I certainly have and had to clean them up with a router.

Interested in how you did you’re overhead crane in you’re shop. What are those trolleys that you used ?
@bjswanner
@bjswanner 29 күн бұрын
You must have eagle eyes. I swear I didn't even show that part of my shop in this video! My hoist is set up as a bridge crane. I have two static I-beams that run parallel across the shop and then a traveling beam that runs along those two on two custom end truck I built from 1/4" plate, 1/4" angle iron, and wheels/axels I harvested from Harbor freight beam trolleys. On the dynamic beam, the hoist itself (electric cable hoist) is suspended from two of the HF trolleys attached together using some brackets I made from some more angle iron. I had to make the end trucks custom because I needed them to ride on the bottom flange of the beam but carry the traveling beam on top of the static beams. That configuration gave me the greatest height while still staying low enough to avoid colliding with the rafters near the eaves of the peaked roof. Hard to visualize. Maybe I'll shoot a quick video.

Can these be used with amsteel instead of wire?
@bjswanner
@bjswanner 2 ай бұрын
@@josephcrawley3095 No, the jaws of the puller are designed to grip the specific steel cable made for these hoist. Do not attempt to use with Amsteel, or even with other "standard" lay steel cables.
@josephcrawley3095

@bjswanner I purchased an ancient griphoist several years ago on eBay. Tirfor no longer makes the wire for mine so I went to a local rigging shop and they fixed me up a steel cable for it no problem. It has worked flawlessly over the years but is heavy as hell. A buddy who worked back country trail crew in Yosemite said they used amsteel in theirs but I've never heard of anyone else doing it.
@bjswanner
@bjswanner 2 ай бұрын
@@josephcrawley3095 I imagine the jaws will grip just about anything of the correct diameter, but you will only get the full rating of the hoist with their cable or equivalent. I purchased a third party 7/16" cable for the larger hoist in the video from E-Rigging.com for about $100 out the door. Much cheaper than buying one from Griphoist.
@bjswanner
@bjswanner 21 күн бұрын
Yes, the cable from e-rigging is exactly the one shown in the video. It is a third party cable, but is still designed to be used with a cable puller. My understanding is the jaws of the puller are design to work with a specific cable lay. I have no doubt it will work with most any cable, but I have no idea what the reduction in the capacity or safety would be.

glass and ceramic beads will break at 110 psi. You are now blasting with crushed glass most likely (assuming you started with glass bead), which is why its pretty aggressive and cleans good. Glass bead should be used at 60 psi or lower; cheaper to just buy crushed glass for high psi fast cleaning.
