My great great uncle, Fredrick Gutormson, landed at Juno Beach on D day. He was in the second wave and part of an anti-tank gun crew. I don't remember the unit he was in. He fought bravely for the first year after D day but after being twice wounded by grenades going off near his head, while dragging wounded comrades to safety, and loosing his hearing, he was sent back to England to do homefront guard for the rest of the war before returning home. His brother Heinrich was shot down over Hamburg and didn't make it home. Their sister Helga was my great-grandmother.

Yes, a strong Scottish tradition in Canada. My mother's people, the Dunning family came to Canada in 1776 from the USA and where known as United Empire Loyalists.
