They are so unique that they represent every character trait of every trailer park in the world. I live in Oz and had friends from primary school in the mid to late 70s who lived in the local Caravan Park, and through the years had friends and friends of friends who lived in the parks at different times. The people move in and out, and move on to other parks, but the same clowns with the same characteristics replace them and seem to be in every park I have ever been to. lol

I've been pitching a Letterkenny/TPB's crossover, and Torrens is the key. J-Roc is Noah Dyck's brother, who went on Rumspringa in '99 and never came back. The TPB crew go on a road trip to spread Lahey's ashes, somewhere near Letterkenny. Bubbles loves animals, so he joins the hicks, Ricky joins the skids, Randy is a natural born degen, J-Roc joins the Amish, etc etc. There's enough easy material for a whole season, while having a nice send off for Jim Dunsworth.

Mert! In “real life” these guys are golden humans! I had Julian and Ricky, and then Leahy and Bubbles as guest MC’s at the 3 day Blues Fests we operated in southern Ontario in the early 2000’s! They were absolutely fantastic! They stayed in character as they did their MC duties and interacted out with the crowd during the music sets. Soooo funny, so easy to work with - and our audiences just went nuts for them. Enjoy! Peace

@christhornycroft3686 2 ай бұрын
Some context: There was a black and white TV movie that set up the characters. It's actually very different from the series. The characters are similar and have the same names, but their behaviour is a big different. In the movie, Julian snorts coke and both Julian and Ricky get paid to kill pets that are annoying neighbours for various reasons. It's not as likeable at all as this. Also, they immediately add more characters to the TV series. JRoc and his crew, as well as Mr. Lahey and Randy, and Bubbles aren't in the movie. Pat Roach, who plays Randy, actually plays the owner of a dog they're trying to dispose of, but in the midst of a gun fight, they decide not to kill the dog, and then they all get arrested. That's where the series picks up. But the characters are a lot more likeable in the TV series that you're getting into and while they smoke cannabis, they don't typically get into the harder drugs and as much as the show does have gun play, strong language and sexual references, it's a lot more family values than the movie. Behind it all, there's a heart to the series. It isn't just absurdity. And by all accounts, this is pretty much just an exaggerated version of what Canadian trailer parks are really like. John Dunsworth, Mr. Lahey, passed away a few years ago and he was terrific in the role, as you'll see as the show goes along. He's the villain, but he has sympathetic motivations. He's not just an evil bad guy with no redeeming qualities. No one is really a hero here, and I like that. They're all human, doing the best they can, but not always making the best choices in life.

I used to be a tech at the Banff Television Festival. One year, they had a session with Mike Clattenburg, the creator of the show. They developed these characters by driving around in a car with no doors until the cops pulled them over. They would try to stay in character as long as possible when talking to the police. Later on, he developed the show concept with these characters and tried to get financial backing to develop the show. After getting turned down a bunch of times, it ended up on the desk of a woman at Showcase who loved the idea and signed a deal with them.

They actually filmed at 3 different parks for the first 4 seasons. As the parks would refuse to continue to work with them after seeing the context of the show.

And yes, trailer parks a mobile home parks and campgrounds that have "permanent" residents living in moblie homes is fairly common. I lived in one for about a decade. A lot of people who are "snowbirds" (go to the US during winter) live in those during summer.

Mert, I'd love for you to check out Kim's Convenience. It perfectly captures the diverse spirit of my hometown, Toronto. It isn't pretentious nor is it a typical big city show. The banter is also top notch and it's spread across different perspectives!

About 15 years ago, Mr. Lahey and Randy would tour Canada and they were playing at The Pub at the Park Place Lodge in Fernie BC, where I worked as a cook. It was a beautiful summer evening. A couple of the guys and I were enjoying a smoke out the side of the kitchen when a mini van pulled up to us with Randy and Mr. Lahey driving! 😮 "What's the special tonight, boys?" 😂 Great guys! ❤Great show! 👍

TPB was shot about an hour from the city I live (and grew up) in. When I first discovered it, I really enjoyed how closely it portrayed life in an Atlantic Canadian trailer park. After the show became popular, it was interesting to see how many others could relate.

I remember being 11 at the time growing up in Canada and staying up later than I should have. Browsing the channels at near midnight I stumbled upon this show randomly and never knew what I was getting into. I was hooked right from the beginning and would always stay up on Friday nights to watch the show. Never knew how good we had it back then!

When I was born, my parents owned a trailer in that trailer park. When my daughter was two years old, I separated from her mother, took out a $20,000 loan and bought a trailer in that park. This was filmed in three trailer parks, and one of them was my home and my daughter's home. My cousin also lived in that trailer park. When I lived there, I was really happy. I had two bedrooms, a full bath, a living room, a full kitchen, a mud room, a deck, a shed, a small fenced yard and a double wide driveway. I rented the land. My rent, water and sewage was $200 a month. I had oil heat. It was only a dozen trailers up the hill to the entrance of the park where the convenience store and bus stop were located. I had a high value location, for a trailer park. When I moved, I sold my trailer to someone who specifically wanted me to tear out the shed and the deck and the mud room, because they had just paid $120,000 for a top of the line brand new trailer, and they wanted my location. That said, there is another park that this show was filmed in, and it is much larger, and much crazier. It's located in Beaverbank, Nova Scotia. I hung out there a lot in high school. Crazy characters like this exist and crazy things like this happen. Just not every day. I, personally, was a hero when I was 16 years old because I got hammered and went on an adventure with a 24 year old crackhead to get more beer by kicking in the door of the Beaverbank Volunteer Fire Department in the middle of the night and stealing the beer from their bar. We walked back with six boxes of 24 beer, and the party got crazy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver_Bank,_Nova_Scotia I was pretty crazy back then. My parents had divorced, I was the eldest son living with my mother, I had multiple provincial wrestling championships under my belt, and I had enrolled in the military as a reservist and was doing my basic training and my infantry trade courses. I was a hell raiser. I several of my friends in high school were on the wrestling team and in the infantry with me, and we were allowed to drink underage because we had military identification. I still managed to get high enough grades to enrol in university.

What a great show! Was a fan since the first episode but they really picked it up a few seasons in. If you want to check out a hilarious Canadian movie, I'd suggest checking out FUBAR from 2002. When it first came out it was only released in Canada so it became a cult classic and a lot of people outside Canada don't know much about it. They made a sequel Fubar II in 2010

trailer park boys is legendary. in the first few seasons it resembles nova scotian culture so well. the writers of the show never imagined it would get popular at all besides from viewers in nova scotia. the show actually ended in 2007, but once netflix released, it got onto there and became quite popular world wide. it revived the show. definitely worth watching front to back, it's so uniquely funny and a one of a kind show. also being from nova scotia, damn near everyone i meet has a funny story to tell about any of the actors involved in the show lol. hope u watch more bro!
