This conversation needs to happen with a mediator who is not part of the conversation because the topic was all over the place, and Darren was not listening to understand. Darren was evading answering questions by asking questions, this is a conversational technique to make it seem as though the other person is conceding their point. All the while, making the other guy seem to be hating black people. Which ,he does not, he may have stereotypes about certain black people(he has interacted with) in impoverished areas, but he is not saying all black people are terrible people etc. Also, the first topic was about damaging infrastructure, which is a crime and should be called a crime, Darren was not at all admitting that it was a crime to damage infrastructure. The other guy at least admitted when he was incorrect. Darren was trying to have a political debate while the other guy was trying to have an honest conversation. Thus proving the other guys point about Darren being manipulative. Btw I came to watch this from an interview I saw with Darren in it where I thought what he was saying was interesting. I don't know the other guy from a bar of soap.

Darren thank you for schooling this dude, coloured people need to stand together to fight for themselves instead of blaming black people for their problems we all suffering from the same system

All the protest I've seen, POLICE are always there, firing teargas, rubber bullets even live bullets, so who is favored. Victimhood is deep on this man!

the unfortunate part is that the oppressed and deprived because of lack of identity and political education perpetuate this oppression of their own people . Coloureds are 6 million they must become political and revolutionary or they will be the slaves in perpetuity. This country 85 % of the wealth is in the hands of 7 % minority .

Academic decorum vs Taxi Rank reasoning! What evidence do you have to support your assertions? Response: I know Gugulethu and Khayelitsha like the back of my hand and that makes it fact! WOW!

The problem began when the black and coloured race labelling. We're all black; coloured is a culture just Xhosa, Zulu etc. Prisons are filled with blacks and coloureds and we're all poverty-stricken. Debating about which race is better is a total distraction. We've missed the memo on this matter.

Capitalism and racism I listened to this podcast (thank you) and below are two parallel narratives describing a problem, both worthy of consideration. The first is yours and the second is a plausible option put forward by some who would disagree. This raises the following questions which answers would help resolve these two apparently conflicting stories. What can we learn from history that points to the success or lack thereof of the free market system? What has been the global impact of capitalism other forms of government? Is the problem of disparity between rich and poor best tackled with a racial solution or directly regardless of race ie a class based solution? Is there a third narrative which considers both 1 and 2 above? -- Despite the removal of apartheid laws, why is wealth is so extremely unevenly distributed between white rich and black poor? Narrative 1 This is because of the capitalist system is a trap, which keeps the black people poor by design, and which is maintained by and for the benefit of the wealthy whites minority. The white capitalist mechanisms that keep the black people so poor and oppressed are 1/ requirement for lowest costs which causes (especially) low skilled labour to be severely underpaid 2/ withholding of food, education, health care and housing 3/ racism used as a tool to keep blacks out and wealth in a few white hands. Consequently you can’t separate racism and capitalism. White people generally and especially racist white people are the protective barrier in a capitalist system. Narrative 2 This is primarily because the majority ANC government for 30 years has, with the substantial help of private sector at times 1/ Used their power to enrich themselves through extreme forms of corruption 2/ Placed people in positions based on cadre political affiliation rather than capability. This has lead to gross mismanagement and inefficiency in government, an increase in income disparity and substantial loss of service and support to the poor. This has caused domestic and international loss of confidence in the government leading to paused investment and accelerated emigration of hi skill major tax payers, resulting in a low growth in the economy by international standards. However South Africa is extremely wealthy and quite capable of resolving the wealth differences by through a properly regulated free market system, and providing corrupt and incompetent governance is transformed.

One year after the posting of this clip I would like to leave a comment. I would like to leave the comment. This conversation is all over the place. One needs to breakdown the stereotypes types one by one. It would be ideal to have a narrower breakdown of topics. None the less it is a necessary discussion. Mostly misguided and non-factual statements.

As a coloured person watching this, knowing so many people don't realise that the people struggling alongside them are not their enemy but instead the enemy is the people who impose the systems of oppression under which they suffer, hurts my soul. Divided we beg, united we bargain.

This is a very biased interpretation !!! Firstly slavery was not about colour, it happened everywhere for centuries before most Europeans even knew there were dark people !!! Secondly dark people captured and sold their own people into slavery... specifically to the Arabs for thousands of years before whites came on the scene!!! Thirdly ...it was about resources.. never about colour !!! It would have happened irrespective of the colour of the people involved !!! Your arguments are all political !!!
@duckman248017 күн бұрын
Slavery became about color in America. The whole point of slavery is that black people were seen as subhuman. This thinking lasted all the way until just 60 years ago when segregation ended.

Im a foreigner living in Cape town,i do ehailling (InDriver) some times and i drive all over cape town and i see where and how the true people of cape town live,bro...the DA is a liar. All these political parties lie,but the DA making it seem as if they love and serve the people of cape town?? Go to the Cape flats and the townships,see how people live there. An other fellow african isnt the problem,these people making money here and investing it in europe,they are the problem. Check how much a white person pays at work as compared to a colourd or black.
