It was an interesting show for the reason it was one of the first musical programs exclusively for teenagers. Hullabaloo may have an edge on quality

I watched this because there were only two stations here back then and few choices. Most of it is corny crap for the squarest of the squares. I had forgotten how crummy it was.

Shindig was kind of a weird show. It came at an unusually transitional period in pop music. Well past the 50's and its original rock and roll and smack dab in the midst of the British invasion and a rebirth of r 'n' r more generally, it didn't know where to position itself. The host was a corny guy who hadn't yet de-greased his hair and wore a jacket and tie and was decidedly unhip. I knew that even as a 13-year old. Of course they did score the Beatles and other big names, but they were sandwiched among a bunch of acts that weren't rock and roll in the slightest, lame pop artists largely unknown unknown to Americans. It lasted almost 2 1/2 years. I think it would have lasted longer if it had put its foot down squarely in the newer music camp.

The milk advert made me think of people who were against animal cruelty and were/are lactose intolerant. Judging by whom America prefers in politics, I am guessing they wouldn’t vote for someone who is lactose intolerant and supports animal rights! #PresidentTrump

I was a young teen at the time, a big BEATLES fan and all the other rock groups from England as well as The Beach Boys, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Turtles etc. I was usually more disappointed than happy with the show because it had too many virtually unknown performers doing their renditions of current hits like in this episode. No doubt the producers were trying to save the money it would have cost to have the original artists thinking " the youngsters won't know the difference, Well, we did. Of course Shindig did also have top names on as well but too often settled for less. Hullabaloo was a much better show always with the top acts of the day..

Interesting that the Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan show in February. I took about a year for recording talent scouts to get to London, and sign up the “British Invasion” artists. After that, 90 percent of these American artists couldn't get a hit song.
