A rare 'Instrumental gem' from a comparatively obscure & underrated album ~ 'Snakes & Arrows ' did sort of go 'under the radar' even with Rush Aficionados at the time !

This is one of the best albums that no one knows about. Try to sing along with Laying Down The Law. He only goes up, what, four octaves.

I would say this is in Rush's top three instrumentals. YYZ and La Villa are one and two (interchangeable positions due to day and mood) and Monkey Business is third. No cotnest. One of their greats. One of The Greats. Right next to The Who's The Rock

On the first day I set the scene in a magazine And now I've hurt someone In the next scene I cracked the code of the episode And now I'm having fun In a house in the mountains There's a way to fall asleep And I know when I find it I will let this go... I can still feel my hope Which crushed by the force of chromosomes Its a trailmap to a beartrap Separating poor torn camoflage Under house, under water Lay a wing-clipped history And I know when I find it I will let this go On the first day I set the scene in a magazine And now I hurt someone In the next scene I cracked the code of the episode And now I'm having fun In a house in the mountains There's a way to fall asleep And I know when I find it I will let you go

'Stone' is a perfect example of the superior vocals of Paul Rogers. All the tracks on this album are a showcase of his vocal talent at it's best. His best piece of work IMO. BTW....I notice this video and these comments have been around awhile, but that's great because the self titled album 'The Law' is a timeless classic. 2023 I'm still listening to it.

One of my favorite albums, with roll the bones. Got the rabbit in hat with the words rush presto tattooed on my shoulder. Actually Presto was one of the first albums I listened to when a friend introduced me to the group, and then went to two rolls the bones concerts a couple years later.

As a big Paul fan, I was disappointed in this album... All the outside writers. This music seems sterile and middle of the road. Like, he was trying to Bryan Adams or something... The best tune is Laying Down the Law, which one of the few tunes Paul wrote.

That final chorus is majestic on a whole new level. Fairly simple, but still one of my favourite drumbeats Neil Peart ever did.

This has always been one of my top ten favourite Rush songs. Incredible imagery in Neil Peart's intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics, a hard driving, but pop-inflected melody, and piano parts (played by the band's album designer Hugh Syme) that add a feeling of depth, sophistication and maturity to the entire work. What's not to like. This piece is not only sheer genius but an absolute masterpiece. Too bad that it's such an underrated song.

The guitar work and layers of subtlety in whatever instruments are happening during the chorus are amazing to the ears.

Neil never believed in God sadly. I think part of it had to do with the confusion of so many religions and ideas floating around the world today. I wish I could have had a chance to speak to him about Jesus. I doubt he would have listened, but I think I could have gotten him to agree, that Jesus isn't the problem- but rather so many folks who misrepresent His teachings. No idea where Neil went at the end of his life. Only God knows, and I've heard accounts of Him appearing in remote places and near the end of peoples life and last moments. Hopefully I'll have to chat with Neil one day in a better place.

From the musician , sound design music producer, point of view analysing this piece you say to yourself holy moly !!! 😲😲 How do you come up with starting from little nuggets to building a whole song from scratch !!! Amazing !!!
